Default NSBR PSA Easter lilies are extremely poisonous to cats

Please be aware that easter lilies (along with Tiger and Asiatic) lilies are extremely poisonous to cats and cause renal failure. Even as little as one bite can be fatal.

My DH not knowing this gave me Asiatic lilies for Valentine's. All of our cats ended up spending three days at the emergency vets after finding that one of them had eaten a petal. (They're luckily all fine.) However, it was very costly both emotionally and financially and we were lucky that we had a 24 hour emergency vet nearby. (We still don't know for certain which one it was who ate it.)

I just wanted to post to try to save anyone else the heartache

Poinsettias at Christmas time are also very poisonous to your pets too. Sorry you had to go through that worry. Thanks for the info : )

Robin and Lauren, thanks for the comments.

Apparently the ASPCA has done a campaign in the past but I didn't find out about it until after our incident. I figure if I can help just one pet that I'll be happy about posting this.

Thanks for posting that! I knew about poinsettias but I had no idea about the lilies.

How scary! I'm glad your cats are all ok. We are pretty much a plant free house because of our cats.
