Default Holiday Kits--Do you buy them?

I was thinking the other day that even though I shop a lot, I rarely buy holiday themed kits because I always use the ones my designers put out. Maybe I feel boxed in by a holiday theme, I dunno, but it really doesn't matter how much I like say, a Christmas kit, because I know I only have a limited number of Christmas pictures to scrap, but I'll buy a non-themed red & green kit anytime if it looks fun to me.

SO what about you, do you spend money on holiday kits?

Well, I am a SSD shopaholic so I buy holiday kits! I try to use them for a couple of layouts at least though. Of course, I don't even want to count the kits (regular and holiday) that I have bought and not used yet! Yep, I probably need a 12 step program but I am not willing to go yet. And it doesn't stop me from visiting the shoppe EVERY Saturday! LOL
I really need to make a CT! It will really help the wallet! LOL

I try not to, because there are so few with a universal theme, but I have kind of started doing it because I started seeing some REALLY cute ones... I try to only buy one per season, though, and I MAKE myself do at least 5 layouts with it. I tell myself that makes it worth it.

I'm with you, Kellie. I can't remember the last time I bought a Christmas kit. I have a limited number of pictures (and only like 4 pictures from 2009 since I was so damn sick!), and I can pretty much count on having to use those for CT layouts.

I do buy Halloween kits though because if I see it and like it, I buy it. I'm a sucker for Halloween kits.

Umm, yes. I do.

Now ask me if I scrap Christmas pictures. No. I don't. I have big plans to do it with all of the Christmas kits I've accumulated but it hasn't happened yet.

I do like Holiday kits, and I use them over and over year after year. I think I finally deleted some from 2006/2007.

I don't buy tons, but I have a good collection of them.

OMG do I buy holiday kits! Generally we celebrate Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas at multiple houses so lots and lots of pictures! ... and we have a family reunion in December with a Christmas gift exchange ... so even more pictures. ...so boy do I use them!

...now holidays like St. Pat's (have had 1 picture in all the years) I don't use them ... New Years rarely (I can use one kit for a couple of years) ... and birthday I typically use themed kits because the kids have themed birthday parties (i.e. Pokemon for past years and video game for current years)...

I don't really allow myself to buy kits at all because I never get around to using them. But I'm a total sucker for Christmas kits so I always end up buying at least one every year despite the fact that I rarely scrap Christmas layouts. I can usually resist other holiday kits though.

christmas yes - I have tons and tons of christmas photos every year, there is no limit to my need for christmas kits.

birthday - not so much, I don't tend to use birthday kits for birthdays

valentines day - sometimes, depends on what I get from my CTs at the time

thanksgiving - always. lots.

halloween - usually but I'm cutting back.

other holidays - no (what's left? I guess st patrick's day is a good example...no kit needed for that for me)

LOL This thread is so interesting! From a designer standpoint, holiday kits are usually some of my best-sellers.

Yes I buy Christmas kit and I use them. Most of my kits from this past year were from my CT gigs but I purchase about 3 from here and I used them in both my December Daily as well as some other holiday stuff. I love Christmas and will probably buy more next year. I also buy Easter, Halloween and well any sort of themed kit.

Last year was my first holiday season in the digi-world, so I bought every kit that came out(or so it seems!). This year, I was more selective, but I did pick up a couple of holiday kits this go around. I was mainly looking for THE kit that I would use for our holiday card and also some that I could use for other things.

Not so much for other holidays around the calendar. Birthdays, yes and always patriotic kits for some reason!

I buy lots of kits, even holdiday ones. I'm a sucker for holiday kits of all sorts...except New Years. I just can't resist cute reindeer, santas, elves, bunnies, chicks, monsters, turkeys, pilgrims and lepercauns....I don't buy tons of valentine's kits unless they are super versatile.. I also need a 12 step program.

I usually will buy one Christmas and one Easter kit each year. I see alot that I like, but then will wait until the end of the season (and I have my pics), and go for the kit I like best. I'm a sucker for patriotic kits...and use them yearound. I'm open for just about any holiday kit, other than New Years (we never do anything...but I am always tempted by Heather's Ball Drop Bash in the store LOL). Also, I don't do the 'scary' Halloween stuff...so kits with vampires, mummies, witches, etc don't go into my shopping cart (even though I spied some really cute ones last year)

I currently have on my Harddrive

5- 4th of July Kits
12-birthday kits
29- Christmas Kits
7-Easter kits (thanks to some new releases this year)
2-New Years Eve
1-St. Pattys (even though I'm Irish, I hardly ever do anything)
15-Halloween
7-Thanksgiving
13-Valentine's Day

So, yes, I love holiday kits, some I'm bad to hang on to just in case, but most of these I do use through out the year. I've used them all at least twice, with the exception of St. Patty's day and maybe one or two of the Valentine's kits.

I guess I did get a lot of use out of the kit I spent the most on last year. I ended up ordering ornaments from artscow, each one with a different photo of one of the kids, for my parents' tree. I also was able to make playing cards for my brother with a cute photo I had and the kit... so I already have several Christmas gifts for next year done using the kit.

I always buy at least 1 4th of July kit and at least 3 Christmas kits. Sometimes Valentines day, never New Years or St Pattys Day (though I am getting Traci's this year since I finally have some pictures!) or Easter or Thanksgiving. I don't get enough pictures ever on this holidays. Halloween, I never had to before, but I probably will this year. A store I created for since I started scrapping loved Halloween so I always got a few there, but they closed this year.

In a word, yes! I really have trouble limiting the number of holiday kits I buy, I usually feel guilty if I end up buying more than say two (and I usually do) especially b/c I have trouble scrapping holidays but I'm a sucker for the kits. I love all the holiday kits, Christmas Easter, St Patricks, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving. Love'em all! I'm a sucker for practically any themed kit. The theme-ier the better LOL :P.

Ummm yeah. That's pretty much me in a nutshell.

I will say that I AM more susceptible to Christmas kits though, I don't know why. I think it's because our most celebrated holiday.

I buy holiday kits. I just picked up a Christmas kit the other day, in fact! I design our Christmas cards every year, and I make a lot of little gifts for friends and teachers, so the stuff gets more use than just a handful of Christmas layouts.

uumm it depends on who is making said kits LOL.

For the most part I can generally just go with what I have from CT and from my own past purchases but certain designers *cough* Kristin, Traci, Dani *cough* and I have a really hard time resisting LOL. I cannot tell you how many times I have looked at Kristin's collection for Christmas from this past christmas. I mean I really really want them but I know I do not have enough pics to say it is something I would use. And the ice-skating kits Kristin and Meg did last year....I want them soooo bad and I live in FLORIDA!!! Seriously? What would I do with a snow/ice skating theme kit? LOL

This is what I am talking about:

I just love everything about it LOL. The colors especially. And the elements so cute. And the plaid background paper. So yea I am pretty weak. If I had more money I would probably own everything Kristin and Traci make

I spotted this topic Heather's blog earlier. I tend to buy primarily themed kits but I do check the amount versatile items before I buy. I tried the versatile kit approach and found that I had a shortage of themed elements

I love the holidays and I love holiday themed kits, and when I see all the Christmas ones that come out each year I just want them all, but we live in Australia and I dont think in my lifetime I will ever see a snowy christmas! Its normally like 35 degrees here and stinkin hot!! Something completely different to whats coming out from the designers!! I would love to see a hot summer's christmas kit one year!

Well my designers usually put out more than enough holiday kits for me to cover all my layouts and few extras LOL. I don't usually pic any up unless it really sparks my interest!

It depends on the kit - I only have one boy little one so I tend to shy away from the super cutsie ones, but I love the holiday themed kits

Amen sista! ugh...I have three years of Christmas photos to still scrap. Events are so hard to scrap and feel like you did them justice. But I LOVE the kits for events...too hard to resist. And yes I do try to use them in non-holiday pages as well that way they at least get a little love!

I'll buy half a dozen holiday kits because I do Journal Your Christmas & that is 37 layouts.

I;ll buy one Halloween & July 4th kit becuase there is only the one layout for each of those.

The rest I don't generally buy, though some Easter & St Patty Day ones can be versatile for spring photos

I love holiday kits...but then I love theme kits.

I don't get the scary Halloween. Maybe a "cute" one, but I prefer the Fall Harvest themes. Scarecrows, pumpkins, indian corn, hay stacks, hay rides, hay/corn maze, etc.

The funny thing is I buy a lot of 4th of July kits but I don't see myself as having a lot of 4th of July pics. I do like the color combination a lot, though.

Please keep making the holiday kits. Somehow I find a way to justify buying a new one.

I like holiday kits, I am a sucker for them. I think the only ones I don't buy are Easter, St. Pattys and Thanksgiving.

No not at all. I buy one each year to do our cards and that's it.
As for other holidays, no I don't buy kits for those either, or winter kits for that matter...

Not really.... unless I can see another use for it right away. I did buy Traci's All Aglow, and deleted all the X-mas themed items out of it immediately (I don't celebrate, so I was never going to use them - no use taking up space). And I was still left with a HUGE kit, and I love it!!

I love holiday kits! Trying to only buy one per holiday per year.
