Default A new adventure in 2016

For those of you that I'm not FB friends with here is some news that has been simmering away since August 2015

Changes are afoot for 2016. I have just said "yes" by email to 12-18 months further study. I still have to formally accept the offer when it comes in.

My grade average was one grade too low for direct entry to the Masters in Disability & Inclusion Studies which I knew was a possibility but I have been offered entry into the Postgraduate Diploma instead with minimum grades of B/B+ from my first semester required so that I can go up to the Masters. The papers to begin are exactly the same so I initially wouldn't miss out on anything. To do this I'll be commuting down to Hamilton twice a week as I didn't get into student accomodation. As I only live an hour and a half away and only have classes twice a week, to me financially its the better option especially if I get $1 bus fares each way. Truth be told, the length & for the most part the timing of my commute and how I did uni in my last semester is roughly how I will be doing the PG Dip/Masters - at uni twice a week but staying there all day to use resources etc.

I know this goes against almost everything most of my family would want (they would want me working) so this is a journey I'll pretty much be taking on my own. I admit it, at times I'm scared and worried about whether I'm doing the right thing but I need to stay focussed about the end goal - CANADA!

Good on you Jennifer. Sounds like you have a good plan going. Good luck with the travel. Have you used the $1 buses before? I hope they're reliable.

The buses aren't too bad as its not that far plus I have choice of company and occasionally departure point depending on cost too. I've taken all of the bus companies between the two cities for day trips for a few years and only once has a trip been really late so I figure thats good enough for me.

Congratulations, Jennifer! You worked hard to have this opportunity. I just have to feel like furthering your education is always the best option if you have it to help you in the long term.

I'm on a government disability pension that has strict rules around working so its not feasible. I think I can earn $100 a week before I lose up to 70c in the dollar.

Congrats Jennifer!! I had to do a lot of commuting for my second degree too, but it's totally worth it in the end.

Well I've now talked to my grandmother and I probably never needed to be worried about family opinion as she is fully supportive*of my decision to study to the point of buying my 50% off discount commuter bus pass for me.

I'm fully enrolled now with 5 weeks to go, have bought some of my bus trips already (they were $1 each way so too good to pass up) and am in the process of looking for cheap textbooks

That's awesome!

Your goal of Canada - is that to live or to visit? Just curious, I'm Canadian

Live, my family is from Vancouver & I have dual citizenship. I have been up three times with the last being almost 10 years ago.

I'm so glad your grandmother is "on board" and supportive of your new adventure!
