Default QOTD - Favorite Relative - 10.19.15

Who's your favorite relative, and why?

[Feel free to share your least favorite, too, and why!]

My favorite relative is actually not related to me at all! We adopted him into the family as he was my grandmother's best friend. She passed away a couple of years ago, but he continues to come to family events, etc. The kids now call him Great-Grandpa (he has no spouse or children of his own), and he adores them.

He's the best: smart, funny, sweet, and kind. He and my grandmother took all sorts of cruises all over the world, and I love to hear him describe their adventures.

Can I count my dog?? because other than that it's a toss up. lol I guess my kids are my favorite (not just because they have to be and even though they drive me crazy they are still my favorite). Other than that, even though there's plenty of family time, I just don't see anyone else being my favorite. In actuality I just tolerate my family (and spouses family) to keep the peace... My family is EXTREMELY judgmental and I do everything in my power to be nothing like any of them, and my hubbies family are the type that only talk to you when they need something, and family gatherings are just "eat and go" no real quality time is ever spent, so yea, I'm happy with my world being just me and my kids... and the dog.... and sometimes the hubby. lol

My favorite relative is my cousin. She's a year older and we were always together growing up. It was always my twin and I with her. We've all grown up, married, and had kids. She's moved out of state but we still stay in contact. We stayed with her family when we went to Disneyland and we both kept commenting that we loved that our kids were making memories together and that it was so fun to see.

Least favorite? Probably an aunt that has to nitpick everything and I never feel good enough for her approval. She lives far away so we rarely see her. That helps a lot

Hmmmm...I guess I have to say my brother, Dominic. He's just funny and smart and cool as hell. Our dad wasn't in our lives and he walked me down the isle when I got married. I just love him.

My least favorite would be my mom's brother and his whole clan. Just a bunch of $%@*ers.

My Granny, but she passed away when I was pregnant with Keira. We were best friends, seriously!

If you ever watched Mama's Family, picture a cross between Mama and Lucille Ball, that's my Granny! I miss her everyday!

My cousin. She's my best friend. My grandpa was, too, but he passed a while back.
Least favorite, probably again another cousin who has had all sorts of issues that cause her to be a terrible mother and daughter and sister and everything else.

My grandmother. She came to the US from Hungary without her family shortly before WWII, when she was a teenager. She only had about an 8th grade education, but she had a strong independent streak long before that was respected in women. She was fun to be around, talked to us about everything, and let us get away with things like staying up too late when we visited her. She was also an extrovert in a family with many introverts (and I'm strongly introverted), so it was easy to get along with and talk to her.

The older I get, the more I appreciate my mother, too. We always got along well, but I took her for granted when I was younger (which most kids do, I suppose). She's kind and generous, never judgemental, and just wants all her kids and grandkids to be happy.
