Recipe Scrapbook?
Has anyone made a recipe book but scrapbooked it?
My oldest is getting married next year, so I was thinking about taking all the recipes I use, that she loves, and asking others to send me some favorites, and making her a recipe book... I can type up the recipes or take a pic of the card/page and add it.... I was thinking maybe an 8x8 or 8.5x11 binder so more can be added... and it will lay flat vs a photobook.... If you have done one or even pages with recipes, can I please see??? |

I have many! Mine are always 8x8 hardcover but I'd wait until Shutterfly sent me a code for a free book (which they sadly don't seem to do anymore) so I never opted for the lay flat pages...will go take some pics

That's an awesome idea! Especially with the layflat pages. I know Cindy has some recipe page templates. And there are so many awesome food kits!

The sun already went down, so these have lame office lighting with unfortunate reflections, but here are some pics of mine

I also had a friend who made one with B&W printer copies for the main pages & I made simple colored covers and dividers for her that she had printed on cardstock with a laser printer then she bound it all together at a Staples/Ofiice Depot kinda place - this kind of binding makes layflat pages as well plus she could have a lot more pages for cheaper since it was mainly B&W. She wanted simple but you could go much more scrappy

I started one! The idea was to make one each for my boys of their favourite meals from childhood to give to them when they leave home. I got as far as making a bunch of pages for my oldest boy but they're still sitting on my computer. My boys are 17 and 15 so I still have plenty of time to finish it off...
I want it to look like a cook book you'd buy somewhere but including photos I took of my boys when they helped cook, plus pictures of every dish, and I've added in my tips and notes/anecdotes. Here are a few of the pages: I did all this a few years ago and haven't looked at them since. Looking at them again now makes me want to get on with and finish it off!

I made a recipe binder for my mom years ago - like in 2009. I took all her favorite recipes and made 8.5x11 pages and put it in horizontal binder.
Then when I had my scrapbooking for others business, I made a heirloom recipe album... recipes from the women in my family of amazing cooks. It had photos of them and a sampling of their handwriting. It was just published in a standard shutterfly album. I do pull it out for a couple of recipes - but I don't cook like they do... I'm a try a new recipe every time and I cook from the heart aka I don't follow recipes. lol

Back when I was still paper scrapping, I made two spiral hard-cover recipe books and I use them all the time. I like them because the pages lay flat and the books don't take up too much space.

Love those Erika!! I just have a simple template I use that I think Traci actually shared years ago, but mine needs to be updated.
My MIL actually gave me one for our Wedding, nearly 20 years ago, she paper scrapped it, and it included photos of those that shared the recipe too. I added some from my side of the family. I also hand wrote one for Keira to take with her to college and beyond with her favorite. It literally took me 7 years to do it, LOL! |

Yes! My older sister (a paper scrapbooker) and I made family recipe books for two of our nieces. One was already married, and the other was getting married. We gathered recipes from my mom, my 3 sisters, our SIL (brother's wife), and me. I digitally scrapped them -- all 72 (every recipe fit on one page). It took me about 8 months. I work full-time, so I basically had only the weekends. After I PDF'd them, I sent them to Office Depot to have them printed at my older sister's store. She made the covers, index tabs, and info sheets, like conversions. We also had a dedication page. Oh! And we made a comment for almost every recipe we submitted, basically saying why it was a family favorite and/or memories of that recipe -- some were 50 years old. The recipes were put in page protectors - two recipes per page protector, and she put them in a binder, which she decorated. I will have to find the photos of the cover and decorated index tabs. I will also choose a couple of pages to show y'all. I'm at work right now, so it will be later this weekend.

Such a fun thread. And Erica... you had me at BROWN sugar pound cake.
I think one fun way of scrapping recipes would be with actual drawings of the ingredients and perhaps tools used; my store certainly has that both as just me and in collabs... It would have been easy to work recipes into layouts like below: https://www.sweetshoppecommunity.com...egumes&cat=500 https://www.sweetshoppecommunity.com...ike-it&cat=500 https://www.sweetshoppecommunity.com...t-2022&cat=500 Some good kits to grab for this type of thing are: https://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/s...at=1202&page=1 https://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/s...at=1202&page=1 https://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/s...at=1202&page=1 https://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/s...at=1202&page=3 https://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/s...at=1202&page=4 https://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/s...at=1202&page=6 https://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/s...at=1202&page=7

Here is a photo of the front and back of the binder:
This is one of the index tabs: Here are a few recipe pages that I scrapped: This one was made using Tracey's Fiesta Mexicana. I made this with Grace's Love of Soup. It may be retired. I used a few elements from Tracey's Santa Season - Holiday Baking. It's retired, too.

I did a lot of baking during COVID so I scrapped some of our favorite recipes. I think it would be an awesome gift!

Love the idea and all these examples! I can't find a photo of it, but I made my sister a recipe binder as part of her wedding present. I didn't scrap the recipes, but I scrapped the binder itself and had it printed at Zazzle. I checked, and they still offer custom printed binders. It came out really well, and I know they're still using it 13 years later.
