Default Must do/see in the Phoenix and surrounding area?

We are heading out on Wednesday to Phoenix for a few days. So - hit me up what with what to do? We had planned on doing national parks thing, but with the whole shutdown and visitor centers not opened... there goes the Junior Ranger program that my son loves to do. Any restaurant recommendations, too? It will my hubby, kiddo (age 11), my parents and my mom's service dog.

thanks!

My boys (teens) were in awe of the Petrified Forest. We were there at sunset and the colors were amazing. I know it's harder with the visitor centers closed, but I would suggest still going (if you can get in? I don't know how that works). My daughter & I really enjoyed Montezuma's Castle. It's pretty amazing. There's also a place called Montezuma's Well...it very interesting.

Petrified Forest NP was cool, but it's like 3 hours from PHX...

We used to live there...here's my picks for a short trip.

Eat breakfast at Snooze. The one on Camelback and 51st (I think) has ping pong while you wait, but there are several around town.

Go hiking. Lots of trails around town, all different levels. We often did Black Rock Trail out in White Tanks Regional Park that was flat and only a mile or so in length, but got you out into the 'desert'.

Check out the botanical garden in Papago Park. Also, in Papago is Hole in the Rock. Jake will enjoy climbing up to the hole.

Other than that, enjoy the pools and the sunshine...

Reba - you should ask Mary! She's from that area!
