Jodi Picoult
So after seeing My Sister's Keeper, I think I'm going to give Jodi Picoult a try. Problem is... she has soooooo many books! Since I know there are quite a few fans around here I thought I would ask you guys for a recommendation on where to start.
Any faves or stories that just blew you away? Would love to hear your recommendations! R

You really cannot go wrong with any of them. I really liked Nineteen Minutes. I also loved My Sister's Keeper. Songs of the Humpback Whale was pretty good too. I have read all of her books but some of the titles slip my mind right now. The first one I read was The Pact which was very good. I just checked her website and noticed there are four I have not read including one which was released 3/02

I've only read one of her books, I think it was called 19 minutes, and I liked it. It was not a feel-good book though - just so you're warned

I agree with the ones mentioned... 19 Minutes, My Sister's Keeper, The Pact.
I also liked Handle With Care and Plain Truth a lot. I didn't care for the Tenth Circle, Mercy, or Keeping Faith. |

19 minutes terrified me. Something about that book awoke a fear I never knew I had.
Handle With Care is a good one.

I couldn't finish Handle with Care or Second Glance, but the rest are fabulous! My favorites so far are Vanishing Acts, Change of Heart and Keeping Faith. Salem Falls is also good.
Generally speaking, her books are not feel-good books. Some might have feel-goodish endings, but they're more thought provoking than anything else. A lot of them have made me rethink how I view the subject matter, or at the least do more research on it. |

I have read My Sister's Keeper and The Pact and loved them both. A friend of mine says 19 Minutes is one of her most popular books to read by her high school english students. I had a hard time getting into Harvesting the HEart, and never finished it. I would love to read more of herbooks.

My Sisters Keeper is good, and I just finished reading House Rules and it was pretty good too!

I was a little disappointed with Vanishing Acts - maybe because i read it right after My Sister's Keeper which was awesome. I think I just have to get used to Jodi's way of writing. These are my first books of hers to read. I'm anxious to read House Rules next (if I ever finish The Help)
I love reading everyone's suggestions.

My favorites are The Pact, Plain Truth, and House Rules (her new one). 19 Minutes, Handle with Care, and My Sister's Keeper were really good too. Some of her other ones, IMO, weren't quite up to snuff...but it's been so long since I've read them that I couldn't name them off the top of my head.
And I have to agree...they generally aren't 'feel good' books. Even when the conflict in her books is resolved, I always feel unsettled about something or another.

The Pact.
And be warned... there was a LOT of uproar on Book vs. Movie on My Sister's Keeper. I read the book first, and personally, prefer it. I don't hate the movie... but I was definitely very upset by the movie (mostly because it DIDN'T upset me the way the book did!) The Pact is my favourite, though. If you try Jodi and you're a fan, also try Diane Chamberlain. She writes the same *type* of stories, but a slightly different style.

I read the pact, it was pretty good, but it was a bit too dark, I probably read it at the wrong time in my life.
I also read my sister's keeper and it was ok... I don't know, i'm not the biggest lover of her books. |

My sister's keeper the book was definitely better than the movie. I didn't like the changes they made in the movie. I haven't heard of The Pact but I will check it out.

I read My Sister's Keeper and absolutely hated the ending so much that I refuse to read any of her other books. I thought the ending was a total cop out.

My very first (and so far only) Jodi Picoult book was "The Pact". It was AMAZING. Incredibly heart-wrenching, break down sobbing kind of book (you feel completely emotionally drained after reading it). I read it a good couple years ago now, and I still think about it. No other book has effected me like that one.
I want to read a few more or hers, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I;m not really sure I like her but for some reason I keep coming back:
Sister's keeper was good but just plain sad 19 minutes was good but freaked me out and scared me like Amanda said Harvesting the heart was just horrible - I couldnt even pretend to relate Currently reading The Plain Truth

I really don't think you can go wrong with any of her books.
A couple that I've read are The Pact and My Sister's Keeper. I started reading Tenth Circle and didn't like it so I didn't finish it. |
