Default what a small world!!

It is so funny how people can be connected and not even know it. My son is turning 18 so he started looking for a car recently. He wanted something older that he can work on easily (IE not computerized). So he found a truck and the guy selling it was willing to work with us on price. We went to see the truck and my son really liked it. But the guy who owned it was not home. So it was back and forth on the phone between my husband and the seller negotiating a price. They came to an agreement on that and then the guy said well I have to come down to your side of town to visit my cousins and said the last name.

My husband's like you are related to them? And the guy is like yea on my moms side of the family...my mom is so and so. Well my husband tells him my sister-in-law was married to her son they have two kids together (that would be MY sister and MY niece and nephew). So the guy is like no way really? I know them! He kept saying that is so weird and funny that you are related to my cousin. And then was asking so you know this person and that person? And went on down the line.

So not that he is related to us in any way but marriage really but we have family in common and have probably met him before as well and would have never even known it. It really is a small world LOL

Wow!!! That is so crazy!

I had a professor once who went to France on a trip. At the Eiffel Tower, there was another American couple, and they got to talking... they started asking "Oh, what state are you from?" "Kansas." "US TOO!" Really? What part? Eastern? Us too! Turned out they lived on the SAME CULDESAC.
Had no idea. Never met before... until they were BOTH in France at the same time. Now they're pretty close friends.

probably not. It was already an incredible deal though. He was asking 2700 but my husband got it down to 2400. It has well over 1000 dollars in tires and wheels though. It is a short bed 1991 Dodge pickup. Im sure my son will want to put a lift kit in once he gets it so he will probably sell the tires and wheels to get bigger ones LOL

That's a fun story! Isn't it amazing when things like that happen? And they happen so often!

Ok, my story is not as good as that one but my dad and I went to Orlando on a trip (him work, me fun). One night he said he wanted to take me out to a nice dinner. He took me to one of those Japanese places where they cook the food in front of you because I had NEVER been to anything like that.

So I'm sure that many of you know what I'm talking about but for those that don't, they sit you around this huge cooking grill thing with other people you don't know. There was a woman sitting right next to us alone so we visited with her a lot. The rest of the table was taken up by a family who brought the grandparents because they had never been to this type of restaurant.

So as we visit with the woman, we tell her what state we are from, etc. And then she asks if we have heard of this city because her brother went to the technical college there on a basketball scholarship. Ummm...yeah. That's basically where we are from. And my dad & I have both lived in this area our whole lives & know of the school but had no idea they had a basketball team worthy of giving out scholarships to kids out of state. I could understand if it was a major school, but in my opinion, it isn't.

It was definitely one of those weird moments that we talked about for the rest of the trip.

I had one of those moments just this morning! We had a new shower screen installed. I'd met the guy and spoken to him on the phone heaps, but this morning when he showed up I realised his surname was the same as my sis in laws. Didn't think too much of it because it's a common surname, but the more I looked at him, the more I thought he looked like her. Turns out it was her uncle. Wish I'd known when I got the quote! Would have hit him up for a better price!!! Lol

I have a similar story. One day in like 7th or 8th grade my friends dad took me and her to Subway for lunch. The lady serving us asks me if my name was Vicki. I said um, yeah? Then she says Oh I'm your cousin. I just said ok because it was weird to me. She was from my mom's side of the family and after my mom died when I was little we never really had contact with them so I didn't remember ever meeting her but apparently the spitting image of my mom so I kinda freaked her out.

Fun stories. Jen, yours (or rather, your prof's) is just too cute. :-)

I keep running into my Slovak colleagues everywhere I go... It's almost uncanny. :-)

My small world story happened across the street at the annual beer and cookie exchange. My hubby was sitting around talking to this one guy about making sausage (his grandpa had been a butcher in a very small town in WA) and the other guy goes.. oh we make our secret recipe from this old butcher in Farmington. It took us a couple years to talk him into giving us the recipe, they started comparing notes and it was indeed my hubby's grandfather's recipe for German sausage! Then at that point the guy's wife comes in and they were laughing about the sausage thing when they got to talking about something else. She happened to mention that she has a cousin who is a model and said her name. My hubby says I have a cousin with that name who is a model! So it turns out in a round about way that my hubby and her are cousins of some sort. It's one of those her grandmothers brother was married to hubby's grandfather's sister. Small world to find out at a party! LOL

Great stories, everyone! Nothing to share myself, but it's fun to read about your experiences :-)
