Default Gallery Posting Question

I've noticed that everyone's gallery pics are larger than the ones I am able to upload. What settings do you use for saving your gallery photos? I use PSE 9 and when I go to resize image I use the following settings:

(top of box, where it says pixel dimension):
400 pixels
400 pixels

(Next part says "document size")
populates automatically

width - populates automatically when I do the pixels above
height - populates automatically when I do the pixels above
resolution 72

Sometimes this will fail to load and I get the "exceeds file size limit" so I change the pixels to 375 and that usually works, but I find they are too small to be able to really see the details or the journaling.

TIA for any help!

PSE has a Save for Web feature, doesn't it? Make sure you've flattened your layout before you resize. if you're trying to load a layered file, it's going to affect the final size.

I upload 600x600 @ 250kb for here and DST. I save a second version at 150kb for other sites.

Thanks Darcy - I'll try the auto save as web first and see what that does. I keep forgetting about that!

Well, the save for web feature exceeded limits also. I know where to change it to 600 pixels, but where do you change it to 250 kb?

Marie try flattening it, then doing a free transform at 16% for the height and length. THEN go to file> save for web. Somewhere in that box there should be something about optimizing and a little arrow that will show a drop down. Pick Optimize to file size, and choose 150kb. It'll automatically change the quality % to make it work. Then just click save.

I have PSE8 and here are the steps I do:
File>Save to Web

Then I change the size to 600x600 and choose JPEG from the dropdown menu towards the top. Then I click "apply".

If the file is still more than 150k, then I click the arrow on the "quality" slider and go down just a bit. It usually just takes a tiny decrease to lower the file size. Then Save.

Hope that helps
