Default Halloween costumes? I just can't figure this out!

for the first time ever I have a kid I have to dress up for Halloween! I'm completely lost as to what to dress a one year old as. To be honest I'm not sold on any of the costumes I have in my store (I manage a halloween store now) I know that sounds bad, but I don't think I'll buy one of my store's costumes

Anyone have some awesome ideas for baby costumes?? I need some inspirations please

Well, I love tutus on babies How about a cute ghost? White tutu, white onesie with a black ghost face on it. I'm sure you could just use black felt to make it super easy. I would go to etsy and do a search on "baby halloween" to give you some good ideas!

I prefer costumes that can be used again. When my son was 1 month old, I bought a teddy bear snowsuit and that was his costume. Then when he was 1, I bought the skeleton Gymmies at Gymboree and he wore those. One year I bought a store costume at a used store and he was a pirate. I have also done Batman jammies. Last year and this year I bought sweatsuits and sewed on felt pieces and bought winter hats he could wear all winter to make him a knight and a pirate.

I'm also in the "reusable" camp. Zach is going as a soccer player... Onesie with a number ironed on, and holding a small soccer ball. I found a dog referee costume for $2.50 at Target, and I'm going as a "Number One Fan" from a tee shirt I have and some face paint. Easy and cheap-- I had everything but the iron on number and dog costume on hand! Less than $3 for all 3 of us total!

great ideas guys!! I do love the idea of the onesie and a tutu. She loved her tutu I did for her first birthday! I tried a normal costume on her, it was adorable, but she hated wearing the hat.

laura your babies look adorable!

I saw a really cute baby costume of a snuggle as a tootsie roll and then a white beanie hat...

I usually make our costumes.
Anna's first Halloween she was a butterfly (bought the wings, used a onesie & sewed together 2 dollar store tutus into one)

Her 2nd year she was Pebbles (took a dress that fit well & used it as a pattern for the dress body -- I had a matching shirt & was Wilma, DH was Fred)

Grace's 1st Halloween she was one of Cinderella's little mice (Anna was Cinderella)

adorable!! it would be fun to make it! I'm afraid I'll get so busy with Halloween being so close and things will start to get pretty crazy at the store.

I'm searching etsy now too, and I'll check out pintrest next!

For a 1 year old, the closer the costume is to "regular clothes" the better the chance of your baby wearing it without protest. None of my kids would let me put anything on their heads at that age, either, and things like wings probably wouldn't have gone over well. If she liked the tutu, that's probably a good way to go. By age 2 all of my kids had an opinion on what they wanted to be/what characters they liked, so this may be your one shot to dress her as whatever you want.

My oldest was Mickey Mouse for his 1 year old Halloween. The costume was basically like sweats with the ears on a hood, but we just didn't use the hood and it was fine. My middle DS was Bob the Builder in overalls and a plaid shirt wearing a tool belt he already had and liked to wear. My DD was a princess in a dress and leggings.

Ella was a kitty ballerina on her first Halloween...still my favorite costume. Probably a little bit because it was the very first. I made a purple and black tulle skirt, found a onesie with 3 adorable kitties dressed for Halloween on the front and bought a kitty-eared headband. She had lots of fun with that skirt. Good luck finding the perfect costume!
