Default If you don't have a fireplace, where do YOU hang your stockings?

So, I always have this dilemma. We do not have a fireplace to hang stockings over and I am at a loss as to where to hang them. So shoot me ideas - pictures would be wonderful - of where you hang your stockings.

We used to actually just hang them on the tree and then after Santa's visit, they'd just be under the tree with the rest of the gifts.

However...this year we have a fireplace!! :yipee:

I rarely have had a fireplace in my life. We often hung them off the breakfast counter (that never got used for breakfast) or on the wall by the tree or just on the tree. I have a fireplace in this home and the first problem was to get the weighted hangers! lol Thankfully we only had to buy those once.

We have a fireplace, but it's in the back of the house and I like our stockings in the front with the tree... so a couple years ago I made this board (had a friend cut vinyl) and I LOVE it! I hang it over the piano. This is a horrible picture, but you get the point (plus, there are 2 more lovely stockings now)

We don't hang ours :/ The night before Christmas, we set them on the couch, and Santa fills them, then when we get our gifts in the morning, the stockings get emptied and put away.

This year I have something similar to what Sarah has -

but in previous years I hung them off of the entertainment center. I tried to find a pic but didn't have any luck. It worked pretty well and I just took them down before Santa filled them.

I have a curtain rod behind the couch with a fabric swag draped over iti. I hang the stocking on that too!

We hang them next to the tree above our over sized chair. Last year we didn't hang them because we had no idea on where to put them.

We don't have a fireplace & before I had little people that run around pulling things down, I would hang them on the entertainment center.
Now I just use a clear thumb tack & hang them on the wall, whereever looks best for that year, near the tree. Santa gets them down & fills them & then places each one on a seperate piece of furniture with the appropriate gifts.

Growing up our stockings hung on the railing around the stairs (split level home, so the living room has a railing so you don't fall down the stairs). On Christmas Eve Santa fills them and then lays them outside of our doors to be opened first on Christmas morning.

In my house, we have a window in the wall between the kitchen and the living room. It sort of looks like a mantel, so I run with it and hang the stockings there. We don't actually use them, but I got them a few years ago when Pottery Barn was having a sale so we have nice ones with our names embroidered on them (with a kiddie one for Tiger ).

Um, we stick a push pin in the wall and they hang on the wall. I took my photos off the wall and there they hang. My stocking are done in the fabric made from Zoe's Little Joys kit, so I have to hang them where I can see them and smile.

Because of little fingers, I can't hang them off the mantel, so I have a wall coat rack on the wall behind the front door... and that is where they hang... it's behind the baby gate that blocks off the basement steps.

We have a fireplace but it's cluttered with pictures and my husband's awards and I don't like to move things. I'm lazy. LOL However, the mantle thingy goes across that entire wall so I hang them from the mantle next to the tree with stocking holders.

I had no idea there was such a thing but this is so cute!

Lots of good ideas in this thread! This is our first year having stockings and we don't have a fireplace either so I've been kind of stumped as to what to do with them. I think I may end up hanging them off the wall shelves we have in our living room. My parents always hung ours from their mantle but they would just get placed on the floor once they were full so I figure I don't really need them to be in a place that can support a lot of weight. Plus they're hand-sewn and since I spent the last year working on them, I want to be able to admire my handiwork, haha.

this year i'm going to make a banner for the fireplave i did one for halloween and it made it festive. i guess i should pick a kit and get it done huh?

They have those shelves or wood pieces with little hangers on them in just about any craft store. You'd need to paint it or whatever (or, I guess, if you didn't mind it natural wood-looking, it wouldn't matter). But they're not very expensive. And you could make it more personal.

My boyfriend's mom does stuff like this with her craft business, but, being the awful girlfriend I am, I don't know what the business is called... lol.

We have a bookshelf in our front room next to the piano. I keep my piano music and family photos on the shelves. At christmas time, we skooch things around a bit and set the stocking hangers there. This year, I'm trying to keep the stockings out of Rae's reach, so I have them hung from the very top of the bookshelf. I would love one of those plaques like I'm seeing in this thread. Maybe next year I'll make one of these, cause I have a good place for it.
