Default Can use "olympics"??

I just read an article about the Olympic committee suing over use of the word "Olympics" in an online competition. LOL Seems like I have heard of Olympics in other forms before.

what really gets me is that technically Ravelry is using "Ravelympics" but I guess USOC has exclusive rights to the word Olympics, and anything vaguely related to the word "Olympics".

Yeah, I was thinking that, too! They're only using the -lympics part of the word. And, really... is it seriously offensive to anyone? Is this what America has come to? What about freedom? It's sad.

This is just freaking rediculous. If anything, the knitters were calling ATTENTION to the Olympics and bringing more people and media to it through their "ravelympics". Ugh! Stuff like this drives me bonkers. What's next?

There are situations when I ask "WHERE is the whole Olympics idea?" but this one is by far the most ridiculous one I've ever seen.

Let's ask the finest US athletes if they're feeling upset and not appreciated by the fact that someone is having fun with knitting (or scrapping) "Olympics", shall we?

Technically the Romans or Greeks owned the term Olympics, right? They actually held OLYMPIC competitions, where the Olympics came after? WTH are they so uptight, give me a break!

Wow. They are threatened by knitters. That is sad. And that letter was harsh!

I love Ravelery. I haven't been there in years, though. I don't knit much now that I live in Florida. LOL!

LOL on that letter Heather. "We're sorry, keep on knitting and send us free stuff." I think he managed to fan a few new flames instead of put out the fire.

People are so petty. The Olympics are supposed to unite countries and celebrate achievement. And these lovely beuracrats want to squabble over the use of a word. I don't guess they realize what a bad shadow this casts on their committee, the games, and sadly the America. When will they ever learn?
