You can't go wrong with white and blue jeans, or white or black with khaki. Keep it simple. Bold colors work great too. And don't be too matchy matchy.

Kellie posted a pic of her family pic when she was trying to find a kit for it here;

I like how they are wearing primary colors and kept it simple. If you're going to do something like this just make sure not everyone wears the same color.

it might be fun to do some sort of scheme based on family grouping too. If you have enough, a rainbow scheme would be super fun!

Just know that you're photographer will love you if you DO NOT go the white route. It just is hard to get exposed right and not blown and yet have still good skin exposure and detail in the clothing. I didn't know this before (we've done the white/jeans thing). But now talking to several photog friends and they all cringe when the client wears white.

I do love the primary color thing (as long as everyone understands the concept!)

We had family photos taken a few years ago at my Grandparents 60th wedding anniversary party and everyone just wore whatever and while it isn't all coordinated, we still love it since we are all in the photo for once!

DH's side of the family had pictures taken last summer. The criteria we were given were jeans with pastel-colored shirt. I was a little apprehensive with the pastels, especially with the boys, but I think it ended up turning out okay. Here is the large group:

And here a photo of just his parents and siblings:

I really like the idea of khaki or blue jeans and black or blue...I don't like the rainbow color idea only because I think it will give alot of different color casts on peoples faces...just my thoughts

I agree...with that many people wearing all white, I don't think it will turn out. My side of the family did that once and it didn't turn out very well either. My mom hates those photos.

When we did my side of the family's big group picture we color-coordinated with our family groups. My parents and siblings did navy shirts w/ jeans, my uncle and his family did red, another uncle and family did yellow, etc. We just tried to make sure that the intensity of the hues was similar. It turned out really nicely.

We have done the blacks, the white/jeans, the UF Gator colors LOL! and the navy. This year we did some brighter colors and coordinated within the families because my mom really wanted something bright and fun.
