Default Windows 7 and Fonts....

Okay, so apparently my fonts folder is read only. I have tried EVERYTHING I can find on how to make it unead and NOTHING is working. I can't add any fonts to my folder with it set up this way. Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas on how to correct it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

(Yet one more reason to get a Mac).

That's strange because I have Windows 7 on 2 machines and have had no problems adding fonts to either. I didn't change anything that I know of - I just added them and they were fine. Hopefully someone else will be of help.

Can you log in as an administrator and add them. Sometimes it depends on how you set up the permissions whether or not you can modify a file folder (fonts). Then if you log in as an administrator you can change the permissions there.

I'm on Win7 and the only difference I noticed that I can't copy fonts directly into the Fonts folder from ACDSee (via "Copy to folder" shortcut), but have to open the folder and do it manually (no problem there). I didn't try to look deeper into it, because as long as it works I don't look for solutions.

Since a week I've been working with Windows 7 on my laptop and no issues at all with fonts and things!

The only thing I experience in comparison with XP is that you cannot see clearly what's in the folders.....

I've you had a folder with kits in XP and you set it on thumbnails you had aflat image with max 4 small photos of what's in it. In W7 is looks like a book on it's side and you have to make the icons real big to see in one sight what's in it.

Sorry I don't know how to explain it differently.

have you right clicked on a font file and clicked properties and unchecked the read-only then tried to see if it would install?

I think I get it - right now I'm at my desktop that runs XP, but I'll turn on the laptop in the afternoon to see how it works there. I can remember I had some trouble initially with displaying things and a friend of mine fixed it, but it might have been a different issue. I'm almost sure he made it look almost like XP, but right now I can't claim that 100%.

Leontine, is this the view you get? I suppose it is. In that case it's the same in my laptop as it is in yours:

Yes, that is what I see in W7....in XP they were flat so I could see more easily what's inside. I guess I just have to get used to open all folders.

Hmmm... Sorry I couldn't help. I don't mind it this way. When I come back to Lux (in 3 weeks), you might remind me and I ask my PC guru colleague if he knows how to change that folder view. Experience has taught me that lots of things are possible if you know the settings, but I longer enjoy knowing them, so I ask people who do. :-)

Thanks girls. I've tried everything you have all posted. I am the only user on my lappy and as far as I know I am the administrator. I even tried the CMD process - which wouldn't work either. I'll see if my dad can fix it....

I always right click on the font and install. That's it. My font folder is set to read only as well. But if I right click on the font file and install it then installs it and puts it in that folder.
