yea I didn't care for that hats either... they sure put them over the top...and they were so distracting considering the bride was so much simpler. I think they shoulda stuck to the more simple hats too.

I guess thats all British fashion for you... i don't get it but thats okay!! lol

I thought Kate's mother looked wonderful and I rather liked her hat too.
And I loved her sister's dress! I just wish it wasn't cream as well, that seemed strange to me that the MOH and flowers girls were also in cream/ivory like the bride.

I think the hats are fun. But I like hats, even if I don't wear them often.

I think that it's traditional for British aristocracy to wear crazy hats for social occasions. I enjoy looking at them and imagining myself in one, LOL. ;-)

It's just a British thing. They love to wear hats, and for some occasions the crazier the hat the better. It's just the way they do things.

thx, Traci. thought I was the only one and was afraid I was speak the words aloud. Thought the dress was going to swallow her then. This one - absolute timeless beauty.

I'll admit it - I was around for Di's wedding - watched it, and watched this one (not live but later) - and maybe it was me, but think there def. was an emphasis on marriage vows and the sanctity of marriage in this ceremony... anyone else feel the same?

I'm not sure I got that but I did feel that the coverage of this ceremony was much more intimate. I mean those cameras were really right there all up in their business. Diana and Charles's wedding felt more remote and less like you were standing right there with them.

I didn't see Di's, and I haven't seen this one yet, but that comment doesn't surprise me. I read an article this morning and it said that when they made the engagement announcement, Willian said that he wanted "this marriage to last forever". People close to the couple said they really thought long and hard about it, considering so many royal marriage have failed (his parents, and apparently also his uncle and another family member).

From what I've read, they've been through a lot as a couple already, and I don't think they would have wed today if they weren't in it for the long haul. That's the impression I get anyway.

I remember watching Di and Charles live with my mom. The dress was very 80's and we thought is was gorgeous! Now, not so much.
I loved Kate's entire look! She was so beautiful and graceful. Will reminds me so much of his mum. I wish them happy!

I wondered about that color thing too. Is it a royal thing? A British thing? I wouldn't have cared as much if there had been a touch of color - maybe a soft pink sash on the little ones or some lightly colored lace? The MOH looked very nice though. I liked how the fit/style of her gown was similar to the bride.

I thought her dress was beautiful, very timeless, very Grace Kelly.

I watched the wedding, I dvr'd it, I did fast forward through a lot of the singing. LOL!

And I didn't like Di's dress either.

Okay..I didn't watch it live but I've watched bits throughout the day and i agree she looked absolutely gorgeous..as did her maid of honor (her sister right?) Beautiful girls. I thought Harry looked adorable too

But someone please explain the hat thing? Is it just a British thing? The two princesses (Fergie's daughters) Wow. I'm not understanding the hats lol. I mean I have nothing against hats...but why do they look like abstract art perched on their heads? lol

ETA: and Di's dress looks dated now..but I remember when she wore it thinking it was just like a princess should look. But then again it was the 80's and we had all lost our minds when it came to fashion lol.

I watched it all night long. I LOVED her dress, simple and elegant, which is my favorite style. I thought the Queen's yellow dress was also gorgeous. Beatrice and Eugenie looked ridiculous. I love those crazy hats, they are kinda awesome, but theirs were awful. I also liked how they seemed to calm eachother and seemed very sweet together.

Where's Andrea? I've got questions! LOL!
I just finished watching the whole thing (thank you CNN).
Why didn't Catherine give William a ring?
While they were in the carriage going to Buckingham Palace, anytime William saluted, Catherine ducked/bowed her head. I assume that's a sort of respectful gesture type thing?

I didn't watch it live...just bits and pieces throughout the day...Beatrice's hat made her look like a reindeer...silliness. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not fashion forward, but what is it with the hats being positioned to look like they're ready to fall right off their head? I'm thinking of Victoria Beckham as I ask this...Kate was absolutely stunning - she's such a classic beauty...seemingly perfect for William.

Col, I read last week that William has chosen not to wear a ring.

Ah, thank you Leila!!

Omg, I just saw photos of the second dress Catherine wore for the receptions. STUNNING!! (Trying to find a photo now, the one I saw was in a slideshow and I can't copy/paste it.)

I loved her second dress just as much as her first. She's so classic and elegant.

William decided to break tradition by not wearing a ring. Her ring was made from a nugget of rare welsh gold.

Pippa wore a green dress and looked beautiful too.

And Harry is very cute!!!

I want more reception photos! Lol! I love a good party

Someone online pointed out that her second dress may have been teh same as her first. They may have done a lace bodice overlay, and a big poofy wrap around the "second" dress. They're so similarly constructed.

Pippa is gorgeous too. That green dress was stunning (probably in more ways than 1 with that plunging neckline, LOL!).

Her reception dress was not the same as her wedding dress...they said on 20/20 it was a different dress but the same designer.

I want Pippa and Harry to get married now..they seem to get along so well..they were both quite jovial today

Also in the invites..it instructed the ladies to wear hats and the males to wear tails on their jackets....probably why they made a big deal that the Prime Ministers wife did not wear one.

They aren't the exact same but maybe the same design.
Her ceremony dress had the lace but also had the train and detail work on the bottom.
The "reception" dress was plain, no train, no lace, and had that belt. And it was strapless, she wore that fur shaw over it.

I think it's at least the same design because the silhouette looks stunning on her.

Yea I knew it was the same designer. And I heard about the invites...the world is in an uproar about the Prime Ministers wife not wearing a hat.

I've been obsessed all afternoon with the little details of the wedding...which is weird because before today I was like whoopie, I'll watch but that's about it.

Anyways, according to a lip reader, Harry said something along the lines of: "Right, here she is now."
Since he sneeked a peak at Kate and it's custom for the groom to be the last to see her.

I watched it live (it aired about 6PM over here) and I caught the whole ceremony and carriage ride but missed the kiss because I had a dinner. I felt so torn (do I go to the dinner? or watch history? lol)

Like many I loved Kate's dress--I felt it was appropriate, classic, and so very her. I was especially happy she wore her hair down. Apparently it was a hullaballoo because traditionally all royal brides wore their hair up. Um, yeah whatever. lol.

I thought it was adorable that they drove back to Clarence House in an Aston Martin--hee, sorta reminded everyone that for all intents and purposes, they are a young and happy couple despite all the pomp and pageantry

And omg that cake was such a work of art. I would've wanted a piece of that Though a chocolate biscuit cake is making my mouth water too!

It was such a lovely day yesterday - I loved watching it all, and as Andrea said, it made everyone feel proud to be British.

Honestly, we British aren't as fixed in our ideas about brides as you think - its just the press has been speculating and telling everyone what they think is going to happen - and just like most couples, William & Kate thankfully did it all their own way, from the dress & cake to the colour of the bridesmaid dresses. Its not traditional here to have hair one way or the other or the same dress colour for the bridesmaids, just a choice they made. I loved the idea of the trees in the Abbey, and did like the little nods to tradition though like the Lilly of the Valley in the button holes.

Fruit cake is a more traditional form of cake over here, though it is being replaced by sponge cake like you usually have in the States 'cos not everyone likes fruit. It is tradition to keep the top tier for the christening of your first child though, and fruit cake keeps.

I totally agree about some of the hats!!! I think Eugenie's outfit was Vivienne Westwood, & maybe the hat was made to fit the look, but...!! Did you like the Facinators? Those sort of not-exactly-a-hat hair decorations? Some of those were fun & pretty!

Col? William had to return the salute each time, as he was being saluted both as being a Royal & also as he is Colonel in Cheif of the Irish Guards (hence the gorgeous red uniform& shamrock on the collar) - Kate bowing in acknowledgement of them saluting her after her wedding as being a Royal now. Plus they both saluted the cenotaph as a mark of respect.

If William had worn the uniform for his cuurent job (with the RAF Search & Rescue), it would have been RAF blue and he would have had to salute his brother who as a captain now would have out rank William!

Thanks Sara! I read that he was saluting different historic monuments that they were driving past, and he told her she should bow her head. Totally made more sense once I realized what was happening. Thanks for the explanation

I loved watching it all - they are truly a beautiful couple. There was one thing that I noticed that I thought was cute. It was after the wedding and they were in the carriage on the way to the palace. They went through the little tunnel thing and as they came out, you could see that Kate had her hand on Will's leg and he had his hand over hers. But as soon as they came through where everyone could see them again, she pulled her hand back to her own lap. I just thought it was a sweet & tender moment.

And during one of the interviews with a palace insider, she made the comment that Prince Charles has never put the toothpaste on his own toothbrush. That just kinda floored me. I mean I know I can't really even begin to imagine the type of life they live, but that just struck me as so strange. To live your life with every single thing done for you. I love that William and Kate are planning to continue living in their 5 room house and do the normal types of things that most young couples do. I hope they have a long and happy marriage and I can't wait to see what their children will look like!

I saw that toooo!! I loved it! They had to be so prim and proper and everything, and it was nice to see that tender sort of "behind the scenes" moment.

Plus they both saluted the cenotaph as a mark of respect.

If William had worn the uniform for his cuurent job (with the RAF Search & Rescue), it would have been RAF blue and he would have had to salute his brother who as a captain now would have out rank William!
Thank you for the explanations.
