Default I am getting an error message....

I have never got this message in PSE and wondered if any of you have seen it? I was opening a new file (an alpha) in PSE. I got the message...

"Could not complete request because the file format module cannot parse the file"

I have restarted PSE. I have checked the alpha format (png). I have downloaded the alpha again just in case it was a corrupt file. What am I missing? And what does "parse" mean?

I don't know if it matters but it is Jenn Barrette's Alpha sheets from her new release, At the Pumpkin Patch.

Has anyone seen this? This is my first time to get this warning and I have been using PSE for almost 4 years!

Thanks for any help you can offer. I just want to make a super cute siggie. Who knew it would turn into an all afternoon frustration? LOL

I haven't seen that specific message before but whenever things go wonky in Photoshop, I usually reset the preferences file and it often fixes the problem.

I started getting this same error today!!! We have searched online for hours trying to figure out the cause. I have used CS4 for a few years now and never had an error like this until today. DH bought me a new laptop and he loaded everything on it this weekend.....got the error today (I scrapped last night and it was fine).

If anyone has any advice please share!!!!

Did you try resetting the Preferences file?

Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You'll get a window asking if you want to delete the current preferences. Say yes.

Thanks Lynnette

I did it! I am hoping this fixes the problem! This is just so weird that I have used CS4 for a few years and never had an issue until today. Now it pops up every 30 minutes or so and I have to restart.

I've had this problem a couple of times. Almost always with alpha sheets. The problem is gone after I restart Photoshop though, but it's a pita because usually I'm working in a template with 21452 layers and then I have to merge them all down, delete the ones I don't want tu use, save everything, close PS and restart it. Takes a lot of time.
