it's my downfall
what's one thing you do that you consider a fault?
like me, i tend to have diarrhea of the mouth....and it sometimes gets people irritated with me. what's something you do that is just who you are, and sometimes don't even realize you're doing it?

On the same lines as you Laura, my mouth gets me in trouble. I am very blunt and just speak my mind. A lot of times it surprises me that people equate it with being mean. I don't think of myself as mean, so that bothers me, but I just can't help but say what I think and I don't sugar coat it. Life is too short to spend a lot of time trying to figure out the perfect thing to say when the truth works each and every time.

Right now, the biggest one I'm working on letting self-doubt 'make' my decisions...worrying about everyone else's feelings and not taking care of me.

I cuss. And I fidget. Like annoyingly fidget. And I'm a very expressive enthusiastic talker. And when you get me talking I don't shut up.
So basically.... talking to me is like talking to someone on speed. I'll be moving, picking at things, flinging my arms around, and unable to shut up. The more nervous I am the worse it gets.

I don't follow through.
I have these great ideas and plans, but they never get finished, and I really, really hate it. I think there's this amazing woman inside of me, but I make her play on the computer all day long instead of doing all of her amazing things.

I feel like I don't know how to act in public, anymore... Since leaving my career 5 years ago... now I'm around kiddo 99% of the time... so when I'm around others - and add on that I'm so incredibly shy and getting worse the more I'm not around people... I get so nervous that either I freeze when someone talks to me... or I say something that sounds stupid. I also have a very odd sense of humor and can find the funny in the worse situation... and I laugh/joke when I'm very uncomfortable... yeah... I'm a whole ball of mess...

I am opinionated. And perfectionistic.
So things should be done a certain way *ahemmywayahem* and when they are not, it annoys me and/or I can't understand why someone would do it any other way because OBVIOUSLY I have thought my way through, have experience doing it this way, etc etc. Hubs and I drive each other bonkers on a regular basis b/c he operates so much differently from me and always does things slower/less efficiently/more 'whatever happens, happens.' than I would or would like him to e.g. it does not bother him that he might not eat lunch until 2 p.m. because it takes him 60-90 minutes to get ready to leave the house to go to the restaurant to eat. |

I take too long to tell a story. I like to start with details and work through the whole thing. But half the time my rude friends interrupt me (I guess I'm boring), and I never get to the end.
And other times I'm too blunt. Like yesterday at a football game party we were at, someone asked me if 2 kids who grew up with our kids could go to Grad Night this May even though neither of them graduated from our school (one is in REHAB for crying out loud and one chose to drop out and get his GED - their choices, no one made them do those things). I said, without hesitation - NO. And I think it made her mad. (I'm on the committee.) Oh, and see my second paragraph proved my first paragraph. |

Mine is I let my sarcastic humor hurt others. Mainly because I don't know when to turn it off. Like if something serious is going on, I want to lighten things up and those times I just need to shut it and let it be serious.

Well, gracious, I have things in common with most of you.
I am not sure that others see my downfalls (besides my husband, really, and he gets the unrefined me!) because I have a thick filter when I am in public and therefore am constantly thinking ahead to how what I say or do might be perceived by someone else. I suppose that in itself is a downfall at times. I don't always say what I want to say because of how it might be taken. Online my filter is different. I tend to be a little more open with what I say but I still reign myself in a whole lot. Also, like Mary, I tend to take too long to tell a story. My posts can get quite long sometimes when I'm telling a story so I have to stop myself, go back and delete and keep it short and sweet. I also tend to relay personal experiences in my posts. If someone asks a question or shares something with me then I tend to want to share my experiences with them when it isn't always what they are asking for. Sometimes they don't want to hear my crap. LOL I have to remind myself to not get so personally wrapped up in every answer I give. In general, I am rather introverted. I wouldn't call myself shy, but I can be perceived as shy (or stuck up) at times because of my introversion. I don't say something when I don't have anything to say. I don't make small talk a lot. I think things through before I say them so my silence while I am thinking or because I don't have anything to say can be taken wrong. Once I get to know someone that changes and I am quicker to speak and able to just chit chat more and therefore I seem more friendly. I've had to teach myself, over the years, to engage in conversation even when I'm not really interested (like with the cashier at the grocery store) so that I am not mistaken for rude or stuck up. I live in a small town and there is nowhere within a 60 mile radius that I can go without knowing someone and quite often it is someone who knows me, in some fashion, through work or my kids. I feel like I have to uphold myself to a certain standard or reputation because I am someone who is representing our school district and our community. I never considered myself a community figure until I ended up in a focus group with several very prominent members of the community and realized, that, wow, they considered me important enough to invite into the group... Way more than you wanted to know, eh? I have some diarrhea of the mouth too.

I do this...this christmas we were at my aunts and all the guys had a bet they could pick up a five gallon jug filled to the top with pennies over their head. And Im like you're gonna put it through the wall. Athough I was laughing at their attempts. Until my nephew DID almost put it through the wall. Then my aunt was all like ok thats enough with that. Only one guy was able to do it out of five and both my sisters tried as well and could not even pick it up off the ground. Im guesing it weighed a couple hundred pounds at least (200 or more)

and for my own issues...I am stubborn, opinionated and too sensitive. Which I do not think combine well. But being stubborn and opinionated can also come in handy at times when you need to be persistent to get something done.

OMGee on the stubborn, but I agree; it gets things done. For those of you that are stubborn and opinionated, are you the "strong" one in your family? The one every one else counts on during a crisis? And during those times no one seems to mind those "flaws" that drive them crazy the rest of the time, do they?
Honestly after reading all these posts I know two things. I have a crap ton of flaws and I need a husband like Laura's. Seriously though most of our flaws can also be strengths in the right situation.

Yep exactly...but I think me being stubborn my husband actually loves because when I get something in my head I make it happen. Whereas he is more apt to kinda just go with the flow and accept stuff he is told.
