Opportunity of a lifetime
A few weeks ago my husband enrolled me in a free 3-hour Beginners Photography class with his unit, WTB (Warrior Transition Battalion). Task Force ISO is a non-profit organization that uses the art of photography as a healing tool for military veterans who have faced physical or mental adversity as a result of their service. This is a perfect thing for people within in his unit!
His unit had Task Force ISO come to to the area and teach a class to any soldier willing/wanting to learn the basics of photography. The day before, they had a few slots opened and they asked my husband if he knew anyone else interested in photography. He gave them my name since he knew I loved photography. Because they were filling slots/space I was accepted in to the beginners program. We did one hour classroom training and two hours hand-on, taking photos of the area. I got a follow up email the beginning of the year asking to review the class and to let me know they are offering an 8-week advance class for anyone who attended the beginners class. I signed up thinking it was okay since I got the email. A few days later, I was emailed and told they forgot a spouse attended the beginners class and it wasn't offered to spouses. At the end of the email, I was told to send my 5 best photos for review so that I could learn/better myself on my own. I did just that and heard back a few days later with a lot of good feedback. Thinking that was the last that I would hear from them, I was shocked to receive an email from them this past weekend, telling me that I was offered a slot in their 8-week program!! Me!!! I'm stoked! I always told my husband I wanted to better learn my photography skills, learn how to easily take photos on manual (I can do it, just fiddle around a lot with trial and error). But the classes are always so expensive and being a single-income family, not feasible. This is a blessing in disguise as I truly didn't think anything would come out of it with me not being the soldier or having any militaryelated injuries! Tomorrow, I start my 8-week class in Denver (what a drive and am not looking forward to it) for four-hours learning the differences of ISO/Exposure on manual settings in both classroom and hands on training! While I won't be able to quit my day job (SAHM), by the end of this program I should know my camera better and on my way to taking better photos of the beauty around us and maybe better photos of my unwilling to photograph children! |

That's what my daughter said on our way home from the If Table on post. She was like "you are going to go off for four hours each week and come home with a lot of nice photos" Then there was silence with her adding, "without us enjoying the moments with you"

I told my youngest tonight while rocking him that Mama wouldn't be home for lunch, his nap (he's terrible with napping when I'm not home) and dinner. But I assured him that I would be home for bedtime. He started crying and said "how long do you have to move away from me?" Poor kid....we must move way too much for that to be what ran through his mind when I said I wasn't going to be home!

I am considering to apply for a job soon, but I am the one who is worried about not being able to be readily available to my son. Being a mama is definitely not easy, huh?
