Default I'm disappointed...

Okay so I've had a bad craving for poutine (thats fries with gravy & mozzarella cheese curds to you American folks, lol). So Dh ordered some for me and got himself a burger & onion rings from a restaurant just a couple blocks away. Did I mention its -50 degrees out?

So he comes home, unpacks the food, and my poutine is not poutine. Its fries. Plain & boring fries. So he calls the restaurant because they charged him the $4.50 for poutine, not the $1.99 for fries. And the girl is like, oh just bring them back, we'll put the gravy & cheese on.

Ummm.... did I mention it was -50 freaking degrees? The fries were barely warm when I got them home! And then he has to go back, then they'll dump gravy on cold, soggy fries and then he has to bring them home again??? Yummy. Can't wait.

I sent him back with strict orders that he was to get a fresh batch of poutine or our money back. None of this dumping gravy on soggy old fries crap....

I just had poutine for the first time last year, after a friend raved about it. I loved it, but as far as I know, you can't get poutine in the SW United States!!

I had poutine at our state fair this last year... scrumdiddly. Soggy and cold... probably not so much. Hopefully you get some fresh stuff.

Cant say it sounds yummy but I do hope you get some hot poutine and they dont give your hubby a hard time. I cant stand it when I get my hopes up for something and then the restaurant screws it up

Yeah, I agree, doesn't sound good to me either, but I hope you get it right this time.

When I was pregnant, I ordered a Santa Fe Chicken Salad from Applebees with no chicken and no gacomole. When I got home it was lettuce. Yes, just a big bowl of plain lettuce. Umm, hello. So I called them and explained that I was pregnant, craving this and dh had just left for work with our only car. So they sent someone to deliver a new one to me and all my money back. Best mistake fix I have ever had.

are the cheese curds fried too?

I grew up with fries with gravy and with fried mozzerella bites, but not both together.

Unless of course by gravy, you mean tomato sauce, which was also called gravy when I was growing up. Though when I say 'fries with gravy' I mean the sort of gravy you put on turkey & mashed potatoes, not tomato sauce. Although we did have fries with mozzerella bites and marinara sauce...

now I am hungry

Nope, the mozza is not fried, it's cheese curds (if the restaurant does it right) and the gravy is the same as like turkey gravy...brown.

yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy. Poutine is awesome.

LOL! No the cheese isn't fried too. The fries are made normally, and then topped with gravy (not tomato stuff... eww... like gravy gravy... the brown stuff), and the cheese is sprinkled on top.

It is seriously good! All of you who have never tried it... I triple dog dare you to sprinkle mozzarella on your fries & gravy next time! You'll never want plain fries again!!

I sooo miss poutines! I used to live in Ontario, where they make it the East Coast way. But now we live in Alberta and they just don't make it the same here! There's a West Coast way of making it, and that's to put the cheese on top of the gravy and baking it.... yuck! Any time we visit family (once every couple years) I get myself a good poutine, done the "right" way... lol.

Oh I love the 'real' stuff!
I grew up in Montreal and used to have 'poutine Michigan' (say it with a heavy french accent) at the brasserie for lunch all through college. It is the fries, the cheese curds (squeaky cheese, my kids call it), but covered in a meat spagetti sauce.
Sounds rude, but mmm, mm, mm, brings back memories!
