Default Data recovery? Lost Hard Drive UPDATED WITH GREAT INFO

UPDATED: GOOD NEWS!
Hey guys, I just wanted to update everyone in case you guys every have this happen to you!

We ended up purchasing this program -
http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm
And all my FILES ARE THERE!! EVERYTHING!

The really nice thing is, you can download it first to see if it can actually recover your data, before you have to purchase it. The hubby is pretty tech savvy, but he wasn't able to recover it on his own. So, it was worth $80 to get 15 plus years of stuff back!

Also, ordered a new back up hand drive and downloading backblaze.

Anyone paid for data recovery? Where did you go or what did you use?

Hubby is trying to trouble shoot my hard drive I was literally using and then it just stopped working.

most layouts and photos were backed up online, but I’ve gotten lazy with my kits and home videos.

I feel sick!!

my FIL is my go to tech person. He cloned my hard drive, placed it on a new one, and then reinstalled it on the computer. I didn't lose a THING! He said something about most tech people have issues when your computers are protected, they can't get past your passwords and give up. I hope you can get it fixed and your items recovered!

Does it power on?
Have you tried plugging it in to another computer?

I had this happen and it turned out my USB port was bad, not the drive.

There are data recovery services but they are not cheap. I would also suggest (once you get your data back) using a cloud based service like Backblaze to keep your data backed up.

I hope you are able to recover everything. I know the punch in the gut feeling when it seems all is lost, it stinks.

Yep, tried a different computer. The hubby is going to work with it today. I’m also going to download backblaze. I’ll be paying for a recovery service if we can’t figure it out.

I have all of my photos and kits saved to an EHD and back it up through Backblaze. A few years ago the EHD died - they were able to send me an EHD with all of my files on it. I transferred everything from their EHD to a new one and then sent theirs back to them - it was actually very easy … good luck!!!!

There is An adapter you can buy on amazon that might help... my husband has been able to recover a few failed hard drives using it... as long as you can hear it “spinning”

OH stinks! Fingers crossed you can get your data easily (and not expensive!) I'm a backblaze user- have had ZERO issues & your post reminded me to double check on my back up- it's at 100% & I downloaded a bunch of goodies yesterday! phew!

Awesome to know, Vanessa! I'm always super wary of those recovery programs but it's great to know this one works!

I know Grace! I've never actually lost a Harddrive before, I had one go bad last year, but I got everything transferred before it completely died on me. The way this one went down completely threw me. It's maybe a year old.

You can bet I'll never take a chance like that again! LOL! I've gotten lazy I guess since I know all my photos are taken care of.

So thankful I found this post! Thanks Vanessa! My folder in my drive with all my digital kits disappeared! Poof! I have no idea why just that one folder in my drive went missing. I searched everywhere and couldn't find any of the files. The folder was there, but empty. I was sick to my stomach too and figured I really lost them all. I went searching on here to see any info from others and came across your post. I downloaded it and could see all my files through their program! I went ahead and purchased it and and I'm soooooooooo glad it worked out.

If anyone else ever goes through this, I would suggest checking them out as well and see if you can see your stuff before you buy it.

That's great Mary! Glad it worked for you. That's one of the only reasons I still have my desktop hooked up because of that program. LOL!

I have a Hard Disc Adapter. I think that's how it's called in English. This one shown in photo, has two ports, for a Pc's Hard Disc and one for a laptop's hard disc. When your Hard Disc stops working, plug it here and then to your Pc and 90% of the time, you'll be able to see your files. It's a very cheap and useful device. All of you should have one.

Does anyone know how much you can backup and store in Blackblaze? I searched it in the past and I wasn't happy with the size of the files it backed up. I needed more. Maybe things have changed. I see the price is $99 a year, but I can't find any details about the maximum volume I can use for backup.

They don't have a limit, but they do have a file size limit of 5GB, but they still accept bigger files (I'll let BB explain lo): https://www.backblaze.com/docs/cloud...ge-large-files

I am glad to hear you got your files back!

This happened to me last year - I dropped my EHD on a wood floor, and it hasn't worked yet. Of course, this was the EHD that had all of my digi-scrapping kits up until that point!! I was able to redownload my SSD stuff at least but then didn't know how to get anything else back.

So I am going to try what you did! Fingers crossed!
