What do you eat on Christmas Day?

I will be busy cooking side dishes ... mom has decided she is bringing over BBQ RIBS (which 3 of the 5 of us won't eat...but she has it set in her mind THAT is what we are eating) ... trying to figure out what I can do for the boys to eat ... afraid to say something to her and then she would go back to her original plan of eating out ...

- kraft mac & cheese (hate it...but they have holiday pasta and my boys WILL eat that
- homemade rolls (yum)
- bbq beans
- "good potatoes"
- green bean casserole
- green beans with ham (because boys won't eat the casserole one)

....guess I better sit down and make up a shopping list and official menu to make sure I have enough of everything for 12 of us...

I have my mom's Christmas dishes ... so we will use those ... excited about that. Ribs on fancy dishes ... imagine! lol

...better than the alternative ... they wanted to "eat out" on Christmas Day ... no way ... to me ... Thanksgiving and Christmas Day are home cooked meals ... and I'm happy to do them!

Had to laugh at the ribs because that's what we're having tomorrow night with my in-laws, but we all love ribs down here. We're also having baked beans, corn on the cob, baked sweet potatoes and maybe green beans. My kids will eat all of that so I don't have to worry about anything extra for them. Do your kids like corn? That's a good and easy addition to bbq.

On Christmas Day we will be at my parents'. We're having soup and chili, sandwiches and other finger foods. We always do something easy like that on Christmas and do the traditional meal on Thanksgiving.

This year we're doing seafood...Sunflower Market has $6 lobster tails...we'll pick up a few of those and some shrimp as well.
My big family Christmas was generally Mexican food...fajitas, tamales, and the fixings.
When it was just mom and I, we generally drove down to Galveston, enjoyed some time on the beach, and ate at IHOP.

I'm not for sure what we're having this year, it's looking like we'll be at both my dad's house and my in-laws and we usually have the standard holiday meal both places - turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, homemade mac-n-cheese, rolls, etc. Last year was the one and only year that we stayed here at home just the five of us and we did Chinese takeout from our fave place here in town! Rob is already complaining that we can't just stay home and do that again lol!

We are having a traditional ham with all the fixings at my in-laws on Sunday... And we are having ham with homemade bread, mac & cheese, and other easy stuff on Saturday with my family. That's a lot of ham, but I love it so it all works out.

Christmas Day is here is a proper roast, turkey with all the trimmings. I can't wait!!

We have Christmas breakfast at home..usually cinnamon rolls I make the night before and some kind of breakfast snacky stuff like sausage balls or pigs in a blanket.

This year since Christmas is on Sunday we'll have a late lunch after church at my grandmothers house..she's always made Christmas dinner and still going strong at 81. We have turkey and ham, dressing, lots of southern style veggies (which means they aren't so healthy but they are super delicious lol) sweet potato casserole and more desserts than we can usually handle.

For us, Christmas day is a day for noshing... to keep the grandmas from freaking out about all the work for me (isn't that sweet, not even my grandmas... ), we have a lot of finger foods and casual fair... so this is typical menu of the day:

Hot Beef Sandwiches - which because of my Step Dad's allergies to MSG, is really shredded beef and gravy
German Potato Salad
Calico Beans
homemade Mac and Cheese
taco dip and chips
cheese and sausage
"crack" bread
veggie tray
bacon wrapped sausages
assorted bars and cookies

With DH's family, we always do a breakfast . . . at noon. French toast, hash browns, eggs, sausage, bacon, juice, hot chocolate, etc.

My family is always a crap shoot, depending on who's in town, and whether or not my sister has her kids for the holiday. This year, my sis and her one daughter will be coming over for dinner which will be homemade bread bowls with Cheesy Broccoli Soup - pretty casual cause it's a small group.

I'm looking forward to a pretty relaxed day for Christmas this year.

We are smoking a turkey and I'll do a roast, then we are adding crab legs and shrimp. We'll probably do mashed potatoes and I might do my Firebirds Spicy Green Beans again, that I will eat alone. Yum!

Even with all of that, it still leaves out one of my boys for anything he will eat. *sigh*

Honey glazed ham, white cheddar scalloped red potatoes, steamed carrots (topped with a bit fo the honey ham glaze), and homemade rolls. Dark chocolate cake for dessert.

Seriously, we have our big meal on Christmas Eve and then on Christmas day we just eat leftovers and junk which usually means CHRISTMAS COOKIES!!!

We have leftovers from the cold buffet ordered for the 24th: cheese, pâté, cold cuts, salads, little sandwiches, crackers, etc. Then, for dinner, in DH's family, we have the traditionnal meal: turkey, meat pie, chicken pot pie, ragout (meatballs in gravy), potatoes and an assortement of desserts.

I was pretty much the picky one at our family gatherings...we'd generally make sure to bring something that I would like (ie no pork or cheese).
I'd probably set out some little smokies or a cold cut platter or something...they could eat off of that (and so could anyone who didn't feel like eating BBQ).

I'm curious as to the eating out though...where was she wanting to go? There's not much open around here, with the exception of the Denny's/IHOP, hotel restaurants, and Chinese food places.

We are having Mexican Lasagne...LOVE the stuff so we started a tradition once we had the little boys....it's Mexican Lasagne on Christmas!!!

We do our big meal on Christmas Eve. This year we're trying to stay relatively healthy so it will be the usual ham with roast potatoes and a salad. Might make some pull apart rolls too

Christmas morning we always have fresh cinnamon buns after opening presents (I do the prep work the night before and just bake in the morning). Lunch is snacking on spinach dip w/pumpernickle and sour dough breads and veggies, usually meats and cheeses too (cutting that part out this year). Supper is always leftover ham with eggs and toast.

Soup and appetizers. We don't really have a sit-down meal at dinner. We serve a big breakfast of biscuits and gravy and then it's grazing, playing with toys, grazing, watching football, grazing, playing with toys...I think you get the idea!

I found prime rib on sale back in November so we are having it, Yorkshire pudding and roasted beets & carrots for supper. If I hadn't found that we would have gone to one of the local restaurant buffets & had prime rib there (plus seafood, turkey, ham, assorted veggies & far far more options than I can make for 4 people with the appetites of not quite 3 people)

Breakfast is peach french toast casserole.

Christmas eve is "the traditional holiday nachos"

that Is a lot of food! I understand that about boy not liking the food ... Tomorrow my 3 boys will probably eat a ham sandwich while everyone eats ribs ... Grammy doesn't believe they should have separate food but I will offer it up to everyone so hopefully nothing will be said to them ... I think the have the right to not like something ... usually I just tell them to make a PB&J ...

Well we had a ton of food yesterday ... Mom brought 2 HUGE HUGE HUGE trays of ribs ... we had one teenager that didn't eat ANYTHING other than my dh's bacon wrapped little smokies ... and 2 of the 3 of my boys wouldn't even try ribs ... and one niece that decided not to make an appearance on Christmas Day (or even call) ... so only 6 of us eating the ribs ... there are a TON leftover ... these trays were as wide as my oven,m 6" or more deep (??) and almost as deep as my oven! I don't know what my mom was thinking when she bought these ... she knew my boys wouldn't eat them and that I was fixing a bunch of sides ... plus we had appetizers and dessert! LOL

Guess we're going to have an impromptu party to eat these all up.

We decided to celebrate Christmas with a couple of friends who brought in food as well. There will be always that macaroni and cheese to start things with. One of our friends brought in some bbq ribs as well, though she said that it was not that conventional way of cooking it.

Mashed potatoes were also served along with big rolls of ham. I enjoyed cannelloni and the special bread.

Well we ate ribs until we got tired of them ... sis took some home ... mom took some to her step-daughter ... and dh brought a slab to his dad ... and we froze up 3 full slabs!! Guess we will pull them out on New Years ...
