Default Mmmm Spring...

Well I just discovered a new phobia of lil mans

There was a red and black bug (ok... feeling like a 5 yr old calling them t hat LOL.. must find pic) on the window screen and he freaked out

Poor nugget. He's afraid of random things.. like ants, and apparently red and black bugs... But not of you know, spiders

these guys.. I guess they're called box elders

these things have always creeped me out, I don't like them! When I was around 10, where we lived, the whole back side of our house used to be covered with them by the time I got home from school - so bad you couldn't even open the back door - the only door we used at our house!! I would have panic attacks so bad that my brother would have to go in first and unlock the front door for me to get in.

EW. We have something similar. They look like lightening bugs (fireflies) but they don't light up. What's up with that? Lauren - why don't we have fireflies up here?

LOL I had to google...

There are more than 2000 species of firefly found in temperate and tropical environments around the world. Many species can be found in marshes or in wet, wooded areas where their larvae have abundant sources of food.

Certainly fireflies are most commonly observed in greatest numbers east of the Mississippi River all the way from Florida to Maine. However, occassional reports have come form such unlikely places as Arizona, Idaho, California, Oregon and Washington state. Although I have never personally collected fireflies in any states west of the Rockies, others have reported seeing fireflies and/or their larvae in western states. There are species of fireflies which glow as larvae but do not fly, flash and blink as adults. These are often seen glowing in their immature form or larvae-like adult forms and are commonly referred to as glow worms. Yet they really are not worms, but members of the Lampyridae family. Such species as Pterotus obscuripennis have been found in the northwest and are quite beautiful.

SO I'm guessing we DO have fireflies here, they're prolly just more in like the marshes and stuff.

We get those around here sometimes too! They are icky - we smoosh them too! My girls are afraid of spiders, if they see even a tiny one when they are out in the backyard playing they come running inside screaming for Daddy or Mommy to come kill it!
