Default How did you start designing?

Not that I could take that step anytime soon.. but one day I would love to be able to make digi supplies in my spare time

What do you need to begin? What software do people use? What tablets?

Just curious. Hehe.

haha i used to design. I hated it tho. lol. I just like to play with pretty stuff, i dont like to spend hours making it, especially when theres a ton of people that can do it better!

Theres alot of tutorials out there. Thats always a good place to start :-)

Jessica Sprague is doing a class on this very subject. Pretty pricey but it looks like it covers a lot of things. I have taken some of her other classes and they were very good.

I have 4x6 tablet (you really don't need anything bigger.. and you know.. i do some pretty big doodling).. and illustrator.. and pse. When i first started-- I did everything in ps cs (i had to downgrade recently to upgrade my illustrator.. old computer ) and did NOT have a tabby. those two things just made life way easier

Amanda Rockwell also has something similar... for $50 a year you get access to all the tutorials and as the tutorials are developed... also free goodies to give it a try.

Yes, I signed up for that one time and to keep from being to negative all I will say is that I wish I had my $50 back. It is probably good for people who have a good understanding of their program already but I was a total newbie and was COMPLETELY lost. I do have tons of freebies but I still have no clue what to do with them.

for me, i just taught myself through trial and error, i don't recall there being a lot of tuts out there at the time. i just kept playing til my style evolved...

i now use these to design:
bamboo tablet
Photoshop CS4
Illustrator CS4

when i started, all i had was PSE though.

I have no interest in designing (I like shopping better than working )...but I've always wondered what Illustrator does.

what's the scoop?

thanks!

it helps with drawing etc.. I just straight doodle (things come out way smoother in ai than ps.. like you are actually drawing on paper)-- but you can do vectors etc ..it's a pretty nifty program. There's so much of ai that i dont take advantage of.. lol

when i started, i was just using cs2, i think. now, i have an itty bitty tablet like la said- CS4 and use illustrator a bit

i think it depends on what you're looking to do a scanner can also be handy if you want to scan items to extract for your kits
