Summer Games - July 15: Ticket to Ride

Hey howdy Sweet Shoppers!

Hello my friends!!! I hope you all have been enjoying this year's Summer Scrap-a-thon! I am so excited be hosting Day 8 of the challenge!!
Athletes all around the world are gearing up for the Olympics. The one thing all these athletes will have in common is travel. The athletes with their coaches and some with family members will be grabbing tickets and heading to the Olympic Desitination. Today's challenge is inspired by travel and "Tickets to Ride."

So come on, ALL ABOARD!!

Ticket to Ride

This challenge is pretty easy and straightforward. Scrap a page with your favorite vacation destination OR your travel bucket list!

While the challenge is pretty straight forward in content, it is also perfect for pushing you to either think outside the box in your approach, maybe play with blend modes or different techniques, get creative with fonts or even mix things up in a fun creative pot of stew (otherwise known as mixing kits together).

As I approach challenges, whether I'm hosting or participating--I tend to ask myself what about the challenge speaks/appeals to me---as that is what is going to drive my approach to the layout that I create. For this challenge, I knew I wanted to create a layout around my travel bucket list. Purely because it isn't a topic that I normally scrap about. From there, I was like, how can I combine some approaches that I really love and just don't do that often? Once I asked myself that question, I knew that I wanted to use a journal, mixed fonts and mix kits/designers in my approach. I opted to limit my bucket list to the top 10 destinations of places I still want to go (which wasn't as easy as I thought it would be). From there, I wanted to share these destinations with possible places to visit/activities to do. Amanda Yi & Wendy P came to my rescue with their Around the World Collabs. These were absolutely perfect for helping me represent and capture all my destinations on my list. For my journaling, I used a variety of fonts that I already own and mixed in some of Amanda Yi's fun and quirky fonts. I did mix in some other designs to help round out the layout but what I really took away from this challenge is that it was a chance to slow down, enjoy the process of creating a layout from design concept to finish product and push myself to collate designs with different styles and mix them together to create my end result.



Remember, there are NO SET DEADLINES for our daily challenges. YOU decide what you want to scrap, WHEN you want to scrap, and have the freedom to decide what prizes you want to earn or try to win. As long as you've met those requirements and updated our master tracker by September 2nd in the case of our grand prizes, or have this month's tracker updated by the end of July if you're trying to earn this month's 40% discount, you're golden!

Most of our prizes will be awarded in early September, so YOU have the freedom to participate when you can without missing out on any of the fun this summer!

I just got back from vacation and I am so excited to scrap my photos. But like always, I felt a little overwhelmed and didn't know where to start. Until I noticed this challenge. So I scrapped my son his favorite place while we were on vacation, the indoor playground.

To be honest, I don't give travel a whole lot of thought at this stage of my life. Maybe because my kids are all at such different stages and some hate to travel. Maybe it's because I just want to see my adult kids again. Maybe it's because I'm a homebody. Maybe it's because I have a hard time thinking of anything not in the immediate future. Maybe it's because I know that it is so financially unrealistic for me that it just plain hurts too much.

If I were to travel, I would love to visit historical places, especially that have to do with the Revolutionary War. Could you imagine the 4th of July in Philadelphia or Boston Tea Party reenactments?!"
