Summer Games - July 26: Parade of Nations

Hello Sweet Shoppers!

Of course we couldn't do a Summer Games event without including the Summer Olympics! For the next two weeks we will be celebrating and participating in Summer Olympic games challenges!

Today's challenge is inspired by the Parade of Nations at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic games today July 26th! To celebrate our kick off with the first Summer Olympic Games edition challenge-

PARADE OF NATIONS

Create a page about where you’re from using primarily the colors in your country, state or region's flag.

I went through a few ideas for my sample layout. I am American, so I have plenty of 4th of July/ red/white/blue photos to scrap. I also kicked around an idea of an all green foliage heavy layout for Washington State- as our flag is basically all green. I then remembered that our local city flag was revamped not too long ago- so I went searching for that flag and thought about doing a page about Spokane. There are many directions I could go with those flag options. I ended up combining a little bit of all of them. We traveled to Seattle when our local WHL Hockey team (we billet 2 players each year) played in the Seattle Kraken Climate Pledge Arena for a rivalry game. I pulled the greens from both our state & city flag and the blues from our city flag, as well as some of the red/white/blue from the American flag.

Sugarbabe Jacq's sample layout is a great example of using the colors from her country's flag (Singapore's) - I love the monochromatic red/white!




Sugarbabe Cassie's sample layout is a super fun interpretation. She said "Since I struggle with answering the question: "Where are you from?" I decided to create a page that gives a visual representation of my usual verbal response!" I love how she included the American flag over the country & then highlighted the states where the army has taken them!

Remember, there are NO SET DEADLINES for our daily challenges. YOU decide what you want to scrap, WHEN you want to scrap, and have the freedom to decide what prizes you want to earn or try to win. I went with my state but also did a USA color scheme. Florida's state flag is red and white with the state seal so I brought in some yellow too for the seal and the Sunshine State

I decided to search if my hometown has a flag or a shield and I found out there is actually one. I tried to mimic it on my page (colors and even the colomns that are on the flag) and decided to create a page about where I live as well. So here it is, it was fun to use different colors instead of the obvious red/white/blue/orange for the Netherlands.

I even found a skyline to use as well!

Every year they have a big parade in Brussels with the court present,
there is something to do everywhere in the country, in the evening there is a big fireworks display
We then drink a good pint of beer and eat a large pack of fries

I realized that my page didn't fit the brief for this challenge so I've revised it to use primarily the colors of the flag for Franklin County Ohio - red, white, blue. I kept some of my original color scheme (scarlet for the background paper & grey for the photo frames) because those are The Ohio State University colors and that's really what you see all over the county!

Well, I clearly didn't read the instructions close enough on this challenge. I live in the US and I thought I'd do something different from a red, white and blue page but again didn't read the instructions well enough.

Megs new release was stuck in my head as the world really is a Small World. My husband is Australian, and I am originally from Kentucky. We currently live in Florida. I took inspiration from all three of those flags to create my page, but it is not color related.

Kentucky and Florida both have the center of the flag with lots of different things circling the middle. KY & Australia both have a blue background. On my page I added the 5 - 7-point stars and the 1 regular star like in the Australia flag. I also added a kangaroo to represent Australia. I created a Disney page as a tribute to Florida. I used the small world theme to represent my family since we are from two different countries.

I do apologize for not being more color specific. I took inspiration from the flags but didn't focus on the colors. I'll see if I can get another page made this week. This is a fun challenge and made me get creative, but not specifically as instructed.

I used red, white and blue for the USA and the darker blue is also the color of the Michigan flag and Rockford, MI logo. The Corner Bar is a landmark in Rockford known as the Hot Dog Hall of Fame. Eat 12 chili dogs in 4 hrs and get your name on the wall. Hundreds of people from around the world have take on the challenge.

I too missed the instruction to use our flag colors. I do have the blue and white from our state flag, just not the red. I scrapped our photos from our state pro hockey team, Tennessee's Nashville Predators. If you need me to change this out please let me know and I'll try working on another page.

Thank you Amie for the fun challenge! It makes me laugh when I read the thread for the first time because you posted just right before the opening Olympic ceremony.
I went with our National day
It was the perfect occasion for scrapping my pictures of our last Bastille Day on the 14th of July.
I used the colors of the French flag and try to incorporate little symbols. I was born in Paris but now live in the Loire Valley. I also have differents origins from France region so I just go with the entire country. It's far to be the perfect country but it's where I'm from.

I choose to answer your question the way I do in real life. A bit of everywhere, although I guess technically "North America" is a more correct answer.
