LOL Painting With Pudding

Everyone says you should let your kids fingerpaint and experience textures... well, I was pretty worried my 1 year old would eat the fingerpaint... so I decided to let them start out with pudding...

here's the whole album, if you're so inclined and here's a sneak peek:

It's been a weird day.

Adorable! My girls' preschool paints with pudding each year - they do mud puddles in the spring with chocolate pudding.

Just thought of something if you used plain yogurt or even cool-whip whipped cream you could mix in a few drops of food coloring and it would give them all kinds of colors then.

Thats a very happy looking little one!

With all children (and many DH's): the messier, the better - and extra points if its edible too!

HOW CUTE!!! I never tried the painting with pudding but I did make my own paints. My mom is a big-time "article cutter" of magazines! LOL! She cut out an article that had a couple recipes for kids paint in it (and a couple recipes to make your own playdough too). I believe I saved them on my computer. It's been a while...I'll have to check.

Found it! I'll throw in one of the Playdough recipes too!

Paint
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons salt
2 1/2 cups cold water
2 cups boiling water
Food Coloring or Natural Dyes
Combine flour, salt, and cold water; stir until smooth. Gradually add this mixture to the 2 cups of boiling water. Boil until the mixture becomes smooth and thick. Add the food coloring until you get the desired color.

And there is a part of the article that says you can just mix light corn syrup with any liquid-type food coloring and paint with that!

And if you still like the edible painting you could keep the pudding one but just toss in some food colors with vanilla pudding or maybe make a Jello paint adding just enough boiling water to make a gooey paint consistency.

Here's the Playdough Recipe:

Mix 1 Cup Cornstarch with 2/3 Cup COLD water.
Bring 2 Cups Salt and 2/3 Cup water to a boil.
Blend into paste and knead.
Makes 3 Cups.
Store in airtight container in fridge. Can be dried and painted.
