I use TweetDeck and it automatically does it for me
I don't know if there is a setting in Twitter itself that can do it for you though. |

I use HootSuite and there is a shortener in there. I also use the bit.ly sidebar for Firefox.

I use bit.ly You can customize the URL so it's easy to remember and you can use it over and over again. It also keeps track of how many times it's been clicked/downloaded too. Just remember to register and be logged in under your account before you shorten any links.

I was the same way...now I am addicted to Hootsuite, mainly b/c with Hootsuite, I can schedule my tweets, like I can write out my #FF tweets and set them to tweet on Fridays.

I usually use tweetdeck too but if I'mina hurry and dont have it up I go to tinyurl.com and do it there

I use Echofon (plug-in for Firefox) and it automatically shortens them... Echofon has an Iphone app, too... and its supposed to keep track of what you read online vs what you read on your phone... but admittedly, I'm having trouble getting that to work well for me! lol
