moving this summer - yikes!

I'm not ready to post this on Facebook but kinda needed to talk to someone about it get these feelings out so I can process them.

My husband's in the Canadian military and today found out we are getting posted (moving) to Montreal. This spring/summer.

I'm kind of in shock. I knew we'd be posted this year or next. And I was hoping for Ontario or Quebec since that would put us within 8hrs of our families. But of all the places we researched online and were hoping for - Montreal was not one of them.

I'm sure once my hubby gets home and we talk about it, he can show me where we'll be looking at houses (can not afford Montreal itself, will have to look somewhere outside of there to actually live)... then I'm sure I'll warm up to it. But for now I'm feeling a little dazed and confused... lol

So. Anyone live in or near Montreal? lol.

I feel your pain. Starting over in a new place can be overwhelming. It may take a while, but i'm sure you'll get your mind around it soon. And once you get to start using all those ideas you've been pinning, it'll be lots of fun!

I have never been to Montreal, but 2 of my sisters lived there for a few years, and LOVED it. They said it was gorgeous, and they had a lot of fun there.

I hope that you find it wonderful, once you get used to the idea!

I lived in Montreal for a year. Like, right downtown pretty much. It's got a lot to offer, but I'm more of a nature buff, so the pace kind of got to me. Ottawa is more my speed. Areas outside Montreal on the south shore are very nice, as well as St-Laurent and areas west of downtown.

The only real downside is the traffic. Any. time. of. day.

I don't live in Canada but I had lived in SLC Utah my entire life before we had to move for work to Seattle. It was scary and I was sad and actually quite miserable for the first year we lived here. But that is what they say. Give yourself one solid year and in that time research where you live. Be a Tourist and just go and do. It makes it so much more fun and bearable. Hopefully it wont be as bad as you think and you will fall in love. I can now honestly say that I love Seattle more than I ever thought I loved Salt Lake. Hang in there. *hugs*

That's what I heard from my ILs but we sailed right by it when we drove over to your neck of the woods last July! They were really surprised we never had to stop. LOL

My DH is in the US military and yeah, been there, done that, except in our case we were being moved from the US to Seoul, South Korea. When he got those orders, shocked would have been an understatement since it wasn't even in the top ten on our list. I didn't even have a passport at that point!

But in the end it ended up being a really cool experience and we're both glad now we had a chance to go. So hang in there, it's tough to be surprised like that when you're hoping for something else but I'm sure once the shock wears off, it'll be ok.

thanks everyone. I'm warming up to it more now. hubby is home and explained that it will be great for his career - which is great. it's a beautiful city, ranked #2 in the world as the happiest place to live, has a lot of stuff to do, things to see, and so much closer to family (instead of taking 5 days to drive it will take about 6hrs to drive to see family!).

My biggest worry is finding work. And making ends meet if I can't find work. But I'm sure it will all work out. We'll go in Apr-May to look at houses and check out the school options for DD etc and the Military Family Resource Center will offer some help for finding work options... Just have to be patient and be positive :P

OMG! I loooove Montreal! It's such a cosmopolitan city! Everybody fits in, great vibe, great energy and great culture. I live 2 hours from there, on the Quebec side of Ottawa.
