My morning involved 911

I had them come out cause Chad has been acting very strange (extra cranky, depressed) and this morning while i was getting the kids in the car to leave he said he was going to kill himself. So, i called our psychiatric counselors this morning and told them and they immediately called 911 for me. I couldn't do it. i know he has been on a downward spiral since he has refused to take his meds for a few months, but its so hard to call and tell someone to come take your husband away. So i got the kids in the car and waited in the driveway. there were like 3 sheriffs, a detective and two ambulances. Kinda embarassing, but luckily i live on a little road with only one neighbor right outside town. They were very friendly; one sheriff was in Iraq in '03 when CHad was there so he can relate. Chad went willingly. I was so afraid he was going to fight. But deep down he knows he needs more help than i can give him. I don't know whats going to happen now. Our counselors at the VA wanted him brought to Marion to the VA hospital, but the sheriff told me that they were taking him to the local hospital for an evaluation. He needs to be there for longer than a two hour eval. Hopefully they will eventually get him to Marion.

What a morning. My oldest two (5 and 2) kept asking "where's daddy going?" "What's wrong with Daddy?" I just told them he was sick and some doctors were going to help him. Aidan's too little to understand anything yet.


*UPDATE* Chad just called me. I'm going up to the hospital to get him and take him to Marion myself. Hopefully, we wont get charged a horrendous 911/emergency room bill now. wish us luck.

I am very glad to hear this. The Indy VA hospital is a really topnotch facility, too, y'know. My ex spent some time there after his first divorce, and it helped him a lot.

Even if he wasn't going to go through with it, he deserves a better life than the struggles he's been going through. Oh Corey. I am so sorry all this is happening. But I have to say that I am so proud of him (and you!) for making the right choice to get help. I think this could be the start of a new beginning for your family.
As far as the kids go, I know that must be the hardest part of all this. My boys are the same age (2 and 6) and it must be so confusing for them. But you did the right thing by expalining it on their level and saying daddy was sick and getting help. Anything more and they wouldn't be able to understand it. Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. He is now safely in the hands of the VA in Marion, after spending the ENTIRE day at the hospital here in Kokomo. They were so S..L...O...W. How hard is it to call the VA, let them know whats going on and get someone to take him? they wouldnt let me take him, cause they wanted to be sure he did get there. I just got back like 5 minutes ago. We've been gone all day. I'm worn out, kids are tired too i bet. I finally found me a copy of Twighlight, so i can't wait til the kids are asleep then i'm taking a hot bath and reading, lol!
