Default Be safe if you live in the Nor'Easter path!!!!

For all of you who live in the east where the Nor'Easter/blizzard is heading please be safe.
Lots of snow and wind and dangerous roads. Stay warm and be safe!!

I do. Michigan is pretty much just cold and grey in the winter. Last winter we got record snows and the kids missed a TON of school. It was crazy, but at least it wasn't boring!

I'm not looking forward to it. Usually 6-10" is enough... we don't need 24"! UGH!
I'll be digging out to go sleigh riding and snow man building with the boys. Ugh again, I'd rather be inside, warm and toasty, scrapping and watching movies! With DH pry working (Verizon/home phones/internet), it falls to me.

It's already started! LOTS of snow falling already!

We've had such a weird, warm, snow free winter. Apparently mother nature just realized it's winter.. but I'll take it, end of january.. first storm? No problem. I'm not worried about the snow.. 20-30" whatever, it could snow 8ft for all I care.. I am more worried about the 75mph winds :[ Those are the dangerous part. Fingers crossed no one loses power, and no one decides to drive out in those white out conditions.

Also, when did we start naming snow storms like they were hurricanes? :P

Yes, stay safe! I've got to admit to being in the jealous camp, too. I hope no one gets it as bad as predicted, but a good 12 to 18 inch snowstorm is fun. I grew up in Connecticut and have lived in Boston, so some years our wimpy DC-area winters are a disappointment. I think you need one good snow each year, but after that I'm ready to be done. So far we've had like 3 inches total this year.

We here in eastern Canada are supposed to get it tomorrow and as much as I hate snow and winter, I am kind of hoping like heck we get a big one and school and work are cancelled for a few days! I could use a mid week break! LOL!

The Weather Channel chose to do that for marketing purposes. NOAA and NWS do not name winter storms or acknowledge the names The Weather Channel comes up with. It's their policy not to use those names or even acknowledge their existence.

Accuweather also refuses to use the names and most local forecasters won't either.

(I was curious when the names started popping up a couple of years ago and looked up why there were sudden names which is the only reason I know this.)

We haven' had much of a winter here this year... so I'm ok with the blizzard, just not so fond that hubs will still have to go to work, and that we will probably lose power! I hope not! My laptop can't survive 5 minutes without life support.... no power = no scrapping..... no good can come of that!!! lol

We're ready - not supposed to start until well into the night here with the bulk of it during the day Tuesday and early Wednesday. School's been canceled already for tomorrow and most likely Wednesday. Have the kerosene heater ready, lanterns, propane stove, extra blankets, battery radio. All I need to do is hit the grocery store in about 40 minutes after I drop DD off at basketball practice (Monday is my usual grocery day anyway but it'll be crazy in there I'm sure ). I hate winter, it sucks

I hope so! All the coverage I've heard is for this storm, so I hadn't heard that yet.

It's pretty nasty out at the moment.... not as bad as what I had expected though from all the talk. The boys are crazy wild today!!! I wish the wind wasn't so harsh, I'd be sending them outside to play in all the fresh snow right about now. LOL

Isn't that wind BRUTAL!?!?! Cheyanne usually loves going out in the snow but with the wind chill it's -15 F so she's in her bed watching TV - LOL. The cats are all wired up and going bonkers too

We ended up with 4 inches, which is a lot more than we were expecting. Schools are closed, and we're heading out to play in it. Glad NYC didn't have it as bad as expected, and I hope everyone else affected is able to stay inside with power on.

We're at probably about 18" it's still snowing but should taper off by late afternoon.. We'll probably hit their predicted #'s of 20-30". It's difficult to tell with the wind and drifts though. On one side of the street the cars just have a tiny bit of snow on them, on my side of the street.. the cars are buried lol. I am not going out there though :P The wind is gross.

My front yard about 2 hours ago. It was up to my knees and there's still snow falling. It looks like it's picked up a bit in the last half hour or so.

About 5 1/2 hours after the other pictures was taken...and it's still snowing and very windy. A gust almost knocked me over but there was so much snow around my legs, I just sort of wobbled instead. And I hadn't sunk all the way down to ground. I'd say there's still another couple of inches under my feet.

It's supposed to start winding down sometime tonight.

I was walking where it had blown away a bit...I didn't even tackle any of the drifts. I couldn't get out of the front yard to do that and, right now, we're not too sure where the back steps are. We know they're there...just not sure where anymore and neither of us can remember how many there are. If I had to guess, the drift in the driveway near the garage is probably at least five feet.

we got 30 inches or so in my town outside of boston - and there are some really big snow drifts by the house. my patio probably has at least 4 - 5 feet of snow with the drift and the roof dumping on to it i actually love it as long as i have power - which we did today and we have another day off of school tomorrow so the kids are extra happy.

I know! Holla for the power! I grew up in the desert, so snow storms are pretty exciting for me. Hard to tell how much we got. They say 15" so far, but we are definitely cleaning up much more because of the wind blowing it off of the trees, cars, and rooftops.

Another day off from school here for Cheyanne too - they waited until this morning to call it though so she has no idea and will be pleased that I didn't wake her up at 6!

We never lost power and I have no idea what our total snow accumulation was - I haven't set foot outside (except for out on my screened in porch which has plastic all around so no snow gets on it). I've been plowed out and from what I could see from the porch the way the wind was blowing there was about 6 feet of snow right in front of my garage and I never had to shovel my front steps because the wind kept it snow free Will have to venture out today and shovel out my mailbox .

Another snow day here as well for clean up.... although it is snowing a little. My nephew came over on his 4 wheeler late last night to plow us out, problem being we were probably better off with the snow..we had a 1 foot thick sheet of ice on the driveway and across the entire yard, that was hard to get around on.... the snow at least gave traction, but it was too deep so I know it had to be moved. It's looking pretty dark and dim out there at the moment, I'm hoping that is just because it is still early morning. The boys really want to go out and play, just not if it's gonna stay dark and cold!

Teasing is fun. My sister lived in the Sierras and she'd get 6 ft of snow in one storm...she'd tease me when we'd get a few inches!

In the 17 years living in NJ we only had one "big" storm with 3 ft of snow. Most of our storms only dumped 3-6 inches. So the 3 ft was huge to us. We had neighbors say that the storms were changing through the years with less snow. We moved to TX in 2004 and a couple yrs ago NJ had a big storm...again glad we were in TX. LOL

We were spared in NJ/NYC area! I think we got about 8-9 inches. Not what they were forcasting, but I'll take it. I usually like one huge storm, and then the others to be non-existent.

Stay warm ladies!

The ny area was weird. My brother is on Long Island and got over two feet- but just west of him got less than 10 like you.
