Default *whine* Yes, totally selfish here.

About 5 weeks ago, I scheduled a shopping day in Tucson (2 hours away) with one of my best friends. we had to schedule it early because she's a local photographer and her Saturdays book up fast, so she set this day aside so we could have a girls day together. I'm in DESPERATE need of new clothes so I've been looking forward to this A LOT. Like literally every day I think about it and how it's gonna be so great to have a day out of town, without kids or hubby, with one of my friends and get new clothes that fit me.

About 30 minutes ago, my SIL called and invited us to our niece's baptism... on the exact same day. And they've scheduled group family pictures. My day is totally hijacked! My hubby was fighting back giggles the whole time he was on the phone while I sat there, glaring at him. So I'm here, whining to you because he doesn't get it.

It is unlikely my friend will be able to get a free Saturday any time soon. I'm majorly bummed right now.

I'm NOT mad at my SIL. This is an important day for her daughter and it's important that family is there. I'm just annoyed that the ONE SINGLE day of the year I set aside FOR MYSELF to do something fun gets hijacked. I've seriously been counting down the days to this little trip. It's been years since I had a day to myself without kids or hubby to do something for me... or maybe the last time I had a day like that was before having kids. LOL!

That stinks! I was rather irritated earlier this week to find out my DH will be working tomorrow... so much for a relaxing Mother's Day. I hope you are able to get together sooner than you think

That sucks.... I think you definitely need to find another way to get some time to yourself even if you end up not being able to reschedule with your friend!

I don't get much of a Mother's Day to myself either.... working at my second job until 1pm, then off to a Boy Singers of Maine concert for my oldest two. That will be wonderful, but seriously, why did they need to schedule it on Mother's Day?? Must have been a man who did that! LOL!

It just was going to be WAY more fun with a friend... especially for the 4 hours of driving, ya know?

And yeah, that must've been a man who scheduled that concert but I bet it will be fun to see your boys sing! And I'm sorry you have to work tomorrow!

Oh mannnn! That is a huge major bummer. And now you've got me thinking that I need a day like that... go to the outlet mall in Vero (2 hours away) with a friend. Grab Starbucks on the way up. Shop. Get lunch. Chat all the way there & back. A few hundred dollars to spend. YEP! You need to reschedule that asap, Megan!!!

I know, doesn't it just sound heavenly?!?! Living in a small town, I NEVER get to go shopping... and I'm deprived of all my fave restaurants.

Thanks gals for letting me whine! I'll get over it. I'm still waiting to hear from my BFF. She's in Vegas shooting a wedding.

Living in a small town does have it's disadvantages. I would be bummed as well. Hope you are able to reschedule soon. Shopping doesn't really relax me. I prefer a spa day over trying on clothes and not looking good in anything. lol

You have every right to be disappointed and even a little angry at the circumstances. I've had two days like you are talking since my kids were born, one when my daughter was like a year old and one last fall. I waited 8 years in between. It would be so frustrating to have something come up, no matter how joyous an occasion, that kept me from my once a decade girls' day.

If I were closer, we'd go shopping for shoes, shoes, and more shoes. Hugs to you! It's a total bummer.

I don't suppose the ceremony is early in the morning with pics immediately afterwards? Can they schedule the pics later or earlier ... so maybe you can still get at least a partial day with your friend ... stores are typically open 12 hours ... just hoping MAYBE something can be worked out ... here's hoping!

...and grrr on your dh for not realizing just how IMPORTANT that day was to you!

It's going to take up the majority of the day. The baptism will probably be from around 10-11am, then a luncheon, then family photos.

I don't know...I think I would still be going on the shopping trip. There is nothing selfish about wanting/needing a day to yourself. Send DH and the kids and say you have an important appointment in the city that day and you will try and make it after.

UPDATE! The only free Saturday my friend had to reschedule is this weekend. I called my hubby at work and he gave up his camping trip so I can go. I forgot he had that this weekend. Gosh, I love that man! That's a big deal, because he really loves camping!
