Default PSE template question

I wiggin' out here. After losing my hard drive, I'm trying to claw my way back. I'm jumping from PSE5 to PSE2020. Not sure I'm going to land, though.

I'm trying to use a template. I select the layer that I want to clip a paper to, drag in a paper from my photo bin, and it shoots it somewhere else in the template. It does the same when I want to replace a flower. It doesn't even shoot it to the top layer which would make sense. I've been sitting here for over an hour looking at tutorials and searching for an answer.

Am I missing something? Adobe is making me feel dense. On a brighter note, I have figured out a few of the other basics.

This happened to me when I upgraded too. It doesn't work off the layers panel anymore - more like you aim to drop it exactly where you want it. So when you're dragging your paper onto your workspace drag it so your cursor/element is right over whatever it is your want to clip it to and let it go. It will land on top of that layer and then you can clip it to it. Hope that makes sense?!

OMG that's frustrating! I got it to work with the elements, but not with a paper. I'm dragging and centering it with the mark in the exact middle of my layout, but still no luck. Thanks, Cassie! I guess it's just a matter of finding the sweet spot before letting go. (This is why I never upgraded. lol)

I had that same frustration. Also, it's now control + alt G instead of control G. It took me few grey hair to figure out

Thanks, Leontine! I did notice the addition of alt for clipping when I was poking about the help forums. All the little tweaks are overwhelming with the jump that I've made.
