Default Vacation smashbooks

So I was looking back in the forum and found a great thread about smashbooks and have some questions.

1- what EXACTLY is a smashbook?
2. What are some basic materials you need to get started with a smashbook?
3. Is a smashbook different than an art journal book?
4. We are goign to London/Paris next month for our 10th anniversary- should I take a smashbook with me and work on it while Im there or just collect all of the stuff while on vacation and then work on it when I get back?

Im intrigued with the ideas of smashbooks but just don't know how to get started.

I love smashbooks. Love them! I have only bought the actual K&Company brand smash books but a lot of people make their own with old cardstock and patterened paper. They're basically a spiral bound book with pretty cardstock inside. They come with a pen that has a gluestick on one end. That is really all you need to get started.

I know some people make theirs like scrapbook layouts, but I don't. I literally just open to a page with room and glue stuff down. I do it as I go along. They are nonlinear and the randomness is what I end up loving the best. I would take it along and add as you go. It only takes a few seconds.

For me it's a lot different from an art journal because there's no gesso, paint splatters, or gel medium involved. I just glue stick or staple or washi tape and maybe jot down a sentence or two.

Mine get so fat and covered in stuff that it doesn't matter what theme they started with. I've been working on a wedding themed one recently even though I've been married 15 years.

I've been tempted to try the ones from K & Company. Here is a little video that might give you a better idea of what it is:

Smash

How to Smash

Hope that helps. There are other little videos on You tube.

If it's the thread I'm thinking of, you have seen pictures of mine...

I went very scrapbooky because I didn't like several of the pages in mine and wanted backgrounds that went more with my theme for each page...

Basic supplies depending on which way you want to go...
stickers
colored pens
washi tape

I have tabs and ribbon pieces sticking out the sides of mine, but you could add those later.

By all means take it with you, but don't be discouraged if you don't work on it much while you're gone...You might want to take a small notebook to jot thoughts as you go that you can add to your smashbook when you get home.

I'm really enjoyed working on mine this summer. Have fun!

Amber, Cheyanne was googling smash books the other day because she and her friends are getting into them as a form of diary. She came across this blog and sent me the link so I could see what they were because I was intrigued also.

There is this one, it's okay, but I'd like to find one that shows more of what people are working on.
