Default Family tree help

Calling on the experts.

My son is doing a biography of his Granfather for a school project. And would like to include a family tree, but we're unsure how detailed it should be.

We have all of the family before the subject, his parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles. Then we have his wife, kids, grandkids.

But where we're stuck is, he has 1 sister. How detailed should her info be? Just her, or include her husband/kids/grandkids too?

I'm not sure on the ins & outs of family trees so I'm not sure what is the right thing to do here.

I do a lot of genealogy and I'm not sure there is a "right" answer to this question. People have different approaches -- some focus on the ancestors/descendants directly above and below them and some branch our more, trying to include as many relatives as they can find. I guess I would include more detailed info about the sister if it was important to the biography. Is your son's grandfather's relationship to his sister's family important in his life?

When I did my grandpa's family tree from my mom's side, I didn't include any of his siblings (he has 9 siblings, I think!). It's only him, my grandma and branching down to his kids, their spouses and grandchildren.

I agree, I think it depends on a few things like the scope of the project, how involved were/are the descendent families, and how big are those resulting families... (if it's just one or 2, it's one thing, but in my family for example, my mother has 6 siblings and my grandmother had 13... it gets a bit busy right quick if you add everyone that's not direct descent -- or even if you only do that!)
