Shopping help...2 year old girl.
Okay, so I'm SO stuck on what to get our 2 year old niece for Christmas. She has 2 older sisters, so has LOTS of hand me down toys. She hates anything girly...dolls, dress up, princess stuff. yeah. Her Christmas list included ONE item & the grandparents have already purchased it. So, what would you get a 2 year old girl, who hates girly stuff & has everything?!

Books - you can never have too many books. Art supplies. I don't know - that's a tough one.

How about building blocks? If she's 2.5 I'd recommend Trios. (They're marked 3 and up due to the size of the blocks.) There are small, inexpensive sets and much larger ones. Here's the basic, midange set. They're pretty easy to snap together.
If she's newly 2, maybe Megablocks. We have this set, and my kids have liked it from about ages 2-6. The bigger kids like it because they're so used to building tiny things that they get a kick out of building something as tall as they are. Last, what about something that's more often bought for boys, like a race track? I think this one would be good for a 2-year old girl, and maybe they don't have anything like it if it's a family of all girls. Good luck!

My little one (2.5) is very in to puzzles right now. The company Melissa and Doug has some great ones. They have fun wooden kitchen toys too (some at Bloomindale's for a great price in Lena's recent thread).
Or...maybe puppets? I was thinking hand or finger puppets would be a fun gift for my daughter to get more into pretend play. Let us know what you choose! |

I was gonna say books or puzzles, or board games? Birk got a bordgame last year called "Who Knows Whose Nose" and he was 2.5 when he got it; http://www.minilodgers.co.uk/Toys/To..._Game_132.aspx

Books. Or if she has a learning game system (like Tag, Tag Jr, Leappad, Leapster, ect) then I would get her a game for it. The mess free makers are a big hit with my two year old (markers only work on special paper) plus she can't make a mess with them so I love them.

I would go with building blocks of some sort. Also, at that age, Rachel loved Thomas, cars, and tools. Mom bought her a toy kitchen, and we bought her a toy tool bench...she played with the tool bench so much more than the kitchen.

Sounds like my DD and your niece are very similar. No girly stuff! The suggestions so far are spot on...blocks, puzzles, books. I'd add any type of musical instrument, too. Tambourine, recorder, drums...plus, that's a little bit of payback for Mom and Dad, too LOL
