I didn't think so. It doesn't make sense for a digi layout to be tagged with any of that stuff.

And so hypocritical over there MandaK. So you don't want to see digi or hybrid pages, but I should get inspiration from anywhere I please. Helloooooooo contradicting statements!

I'm not even a member there but just what I'm hearing here makes me want to open an account and upload all of my digital layouts there. Muh-ha-ha-ha! I love stirring the pot sometimes. LOL

i'll admit. i pm'd the people who made rude comments on my layouts. i have PLENTY of paper scrappers who have commented on my layouts telling me to keep them in the 'layout' category because they love how well it translates from digital to paper. These people who have their panties all in a wad are just being close minded and not accepting the fact that what we do IS an art form, regardless of if it's 'real' or not. grrr this seriously makes me SO angry.

Until I hear from an admin. that i have to do something different, i'm not changing a thing about how/where i post there. if you don't like it, don't look. plain and simple.

*sigh*

I'm glad I read this thread here first before getting confused by the comments at SB... Funny is, I had 2 comments saying I should post in another gallery and then 1 comment which said "Don't listen to them. Keep up your amazing work." (and I suppose it wasn't anyone from SSD) LOL.

Col

I'm with Lynnette, I also see it as offensive what there is said even when they say later that they didn't mean it etc.

I don't check any boxes either.

I think I just keep posting my LOs there until "layouts" and ignore the bad comments until there is a rule given to post until "paper" or "digi".

I'm happy for SSD community. And for its disgusting gallery LOL.

I think it is kinda funny because really we are all trying to do the same thing right? Capture our families memories through scrapbooking. We just choose different mediums to do it but both methods get it done. I actually find digi to be easier and more freeing because when I tried traditonal scrapbooking I was to scared to cut up papers and photos and was overwhelemed by all the stuff in the stores!! Being able to buy a pre-made kit and scrap a photo a dozen times if I want to if I do not like the previous attempts really helps my creative process. I know if I mess up I can always undo. But at the same time I can appreciate the creativity it takes to do a paper layout and enjoy looking at them to get ideas.

What I think is really funny (just reading through that thread, I don't have an account there) is that they keep saying they don't want to look at digi layouts or get confused by them cause heaven forbid they aren't paper and they don't want DIGI credits, if the page is good enough to confuse them by looking at it that it could be paper why not just shut up and enjoy it and try to apply the same principle to your own pages?

isn't this the same drama that happened at 2peas that ultimately spawned Shannon to create DST? There are some paper scrappers that just won't see digi as the same creative force as paper. I wonder if they see that paper and digi come from the same source? example-

and Zoe's paper line from My Mind's Eye

this is just one example! Seriously there are dozens of others. And even if digi and paper didn't have the same origins, can't we all be inspired and able to admire other scrappers' work? If some can't, that is clearly their loss.

Oy. I just read through that thread. I change my mind about adding my stuff. Not b/c they scare me but I really don't care to be a part of that community. Yikes!

I HAVE checked boxes in those when I do something digitally that can translate to paper. Because it's inspiration! I don't do it as much lately, but heck, if I used a paper tearing technique digitally, couldn't you copy that in paper? Or if I used an inking technique digitally, couldn't you take that inspiration and go to your paper and do the same thing if you liked it so much?

I do get why they're mad we're posting in the general gallery. It should be assumed that since there *IS* a digital gallery, that it's where digital layouts belong. I get that. But it's a few compared to a massive community. I like looking at layouts that are full of all kinds of inspiration I don't even look at digital specific galleries anywhere because there aren't enough layouts.

What I don't get is why they're so upset about it? What harm is there in seeing a digital layout that pretty much looks like paper anyway - you're just so mad that you can't go and buy it in the store? Or you couldn't see how to use our product so you are so short sighted you can't go..hmm..I like that, let me add it to my idea pile.

Is it wrong of me to say that I don't pull inspiration from paper layouts because they're generally not as skilled as the stuff we can find digi? LOL! I know it's not nice, but I know *I* can make way better digi layouts than paper too.

Wow...just wow. They keep claiming it isn't a paper vs digital thing, when if obviously is for some of them. I don't mind the comments with in the thread that much, but the fact that some are actually taking the time to comment on LOs in the gallery is just wrong.

You know I was just thinking, after clicking to view many of those paper scrappers galleries, they're just jealous cause we're uber better than them. Glad you said it first though!

Imagine the cost of all the glue you would need. Not to mention all the paper cuts.

I DO get lots of inspiration from paper pages...especially for the shabby style that I love. However, the girls posting in that thread are not responsible for such inspiration. Typically, I ooh and aah over pages done by design team members for places like Prima or other high-profile manufacturers and stores, and they understand all about exposure and comments from a marketing perspective.

And like what has been said...that thread consists of arguments from the same handful of people...not even 1% of the scrapbook.com membership.

My personal philosophy is to kill them with kindness. I went and commented on several of their layouts and will continue to meet any attempts to thwart my own scrap happiness with a smile.

I think you hit the nail on the head here Jennifer. They are attempting to reframe their rant to say that it isn't about digi vs. paper but rather layout vs. non-layout. But they are specifically targeting digi by saying that there is a separate gallery which implies that the "layout" gallery is for paper only without an explicit rule. They are ignoring the valid comment that a digi layout is still a layout unlike a minibook, scraproom, or photo. I think alot of this is fed by fear, envy, ignorance. And to comment publicly on a person's layout saying to switch categories is plain rude. period. If you think someone has mistakenly uploaded, you PM them privately. Comments are meant to praise and not belittle others.

Honestly, what a community of hate and venom. I'm tempted to flood the gallery with my digi stuff but it would stoop to their level. Give me SSD and the warm fuzzies.

HA! I just had to go look in case I could report a post on my layout and ask for it to be removed...or PM her...and noticed that the one who put the comment on my layout yesterday doesn't even have any layouts in the gallery - so what does she care? LOL

hm.
well. whatever. I don't have any desire to post there anymore then... It's just sad- because I honestly LOVE a lot of the paper layouts there- and have added them to my favorites. I'm inspired by everything.. But if they want to be huffy about categories and treating my friends like doodie then I don't have any time for the site anymore. I don't like childish bickering and cliqueness. Whatevers. Any other points I'd have to make have already been stated (ie where the designs come from for paper products to begin with) etc.

I just sent a pm to the person that's been bugging me the most. I just told her that if she has an issue with where I post my layouts to notify me via pm...not post it on my profile and in my layouts...tacky tacky. I also told her that unless an admin there shows me where it says I can't post in the 'layout' category, I will continue to post there. Grrrr. It's so disheartening when a few people have to ruin the good vibes of a site.

I *HAD* to comment on the porn thing, I mean come on now.

Oy. They don't want to listen. They are superior and know far better and shouldn't have to deal with our disgusting porn-like digital layouts.

I'm surprised an admin hasn't weighed in one way or the other. I mean how hard is it to say "The digi people are in the wrong" or "The digi people can post in the layout section" and close the thread

and for the record..the original Star Wars trilogy was far and away better than the prequels. But I love the novels that take place after Return of the Jedi too.

Stacey - admin did, actually, in another thread there about doing some programming to make it 'paper' instead of just layout, so I guess they don't need to jump in the thread.

Jamie - I do too. I know it's only a few people in that thread, but it's really started affecting my opinions of that site. It's sad because there really are so many sweet people there who have gone out of their way to show us digi-girls some love!! I ended up posting there in that thread. I don't really care what they say or don't say - I just wanted to get my 2 cents in.

Yeah...she replaced it with "non-Disney programming"...which would have been a fine analogy. She obviously has strong feelings about digi layouts in her gallery and used a MUCH stronger and offensive word. They can say she meant something differently, but I don't think you'd choose that word out of all the words possible for that analogy unless that was what you meant.

Inquiring minds wants to know: for some people a digital layout is not a layout? This paper vs digi is so 2005
Thank you, language Gods for my lame English skills that hold me back to go there and stir the pot.
BTW, I love SSD community!

They keep talking about how the topic has gotten so ugly...ummmm hello? Has gotten ugly? It started out ugly and has gone downhill. Nothing positive was going to come out of a thread like that. I'm bothered that they're all acting like they're so innocent and haven't done anything wrong.

Wow, it was the first few pages of bashing before anyone came to defend digi scrappers that had me wanting to run away from that site.

Well like someone else said (forgot, sorry!) it's a small minority that's doing the bashing. Same people over and over.

I will continue to post there. Partly because it annoys some of them, partly because I refuse to let them "win", and mostly because I don't want a few bad eggs to ruin the site for me.

I completely agree Col!! I was just thinking of all the sweet people there that have made me feel welcome. I'm not going to let the bad eggs spoil it for me either.

I find it sad that there are still so many people against digi when so many magazines are now featuring it. I loooove Scrapbook etc and Paper Crafts magazines and find a lot of layouts, cards and other things in them that feature digital elements (even full digi layouts). Scrapbooks etc even has a section on including digital in your layouts. And yet people are still so clueless and afraid of it. Sad really.

Thanks! Best stink-eye face EVER. I used to post that photo a lot on a message board when threads got nasty. This thread didn't get nasty but I figured the stink-eye photo still fit.
