Default bizarre question...

my dh is a sweater. along with the sweatiness comes the aroma as well. i've had to throw away many a shirt because i can't get the stench out. is there something i can do to make that icky smell be gone? i hate to just toss the shirts.

I just started putting vinegar in the rinse water and that seems to be working. Before that I was using Febreze (the one made for the laundry). I tried the vinegar after running out of the Febreze and not being able to find more right away. If I don't use something, the laundry comes out of the dryer stinky - we have three boys/men in the house!

Vinegar and baking soda have become my go-to cleaners for so many things. I use diluted vinegar in my carpet cleaner in place of the cleaning solution. It's so much cheaper and works just as well, although the house does smell a bit like vinegar until it dries.

btw, you had me laughing... when you said sweater I thought you were saying that your hubby is an article of clothing. I figured it out quickly enough, but it was good for a laugh

Oxyclean is pretty darn amazing. I soak our cloth dipes in it when they get to be too much. I fill the washer with hot water and about 2 scoops of Oxy. Let it agitate for a minute, then let it all sit overnight. In the morning, just finish out the wash cycle.

I use a mix of the oxyclean, and vinegar. I also love the tide stain remover stuff for his uniforms. Man he sweats nasty in his acus. I won't even touch his nasty green socks. I replace his clothes every six months, at least socks and brown shirts. When you were them for so may hours everyday, there is no help.

I swear by Oxyclean. I have cop shirts to wash...nothing less works LOL. The other thing my hubby does is wear a shirt inside his work shirt, so his pretty uniform shirt doesn't get stinky, just the inside one does LOL

I, too, immediately thought of an article of clothing. lol It's too early for things to make sense to me yet.

I use Borax in our wash to deal with extra stink or extra dirt...and since DH spends so much time working on his car, we get a lot of both! I'd try the baking soda thing, but it makes my skin break out in an itchy rash.

I make my own detergent with borax in it. I'll add oxy-clean and I use vinegar in every load. I have really hard water. One thing I've learned is that you need COLD water to get rid of sweat in clothes. Also if there's aluminum in the deodorant he wears it really yellows the fabric. So nice to know my DH isn't the only sweat guy

Ok so how much vinegar do you put in a load of laundry? I've never used it for laundry before, but it sounds like it really works so I'd like to try it.

And we're talking white vinegar right?

I thought sweater as in super hairy!! LOL.

But Joel produces stinky clothes too. We soak in Oxyclean, which works pretty well, but I try to be as anti-chemical in our home as possible, so I'd like to give the vinegar a try! (all drains lead to the ocean in Hawaii!! Vinegar's gotta be healthier for our fish than Oxyclean!) I'm also curious as to how much to use??
