lunch
what do you pack in your kids lunch?
what do you pack it in? Need more ideas. Right now we are pretty much just PBJ/PB&honey or turkey/cheese maybe leftovers in the thermos and a yogurt and or fruit and milk or juice. We pack it in a standard lunch box with ice packs. we need a new drink system. Our Thermoses leaked milk laster year so we only used them for water after the first week. what do you uise that does NOT leak? we put the food in this and then into the lunch box. I also use these to make it more fun.

DD takes a hodge podge of things ranging from the list below:
Soup - I make a large batch of soup for the week so we both have it for lunches - anything from minestrone to chili to pumpkin to vegetable curry soup. Hummus and vegetables Whatever homemade salsa we have in the fridge that week Salad of some kind - not just tossed salad but a grain salad such as bulgur or wheatberries or brown rice with other vegetables in it such as tomatoes, peppers, corn, etc. and usually beans of some kind tossed in. 2 fruits Crackers and cheese Pickles - the big whole garlic dill kind Cucumbers - always Sun Chips - french onion of course Any random leftover from stir-fry to spaghetti to burritos, etc. She likes cold food. As you can probably tell, we don't eat meat, and she's not big on sandwiches of any kind - not a bread person. For drinks we use a Camelbak water bottle. Lunches are packed in a standard lunch box also - we also use the plastic containers and ice packs. |

We use Planetbox. I like it because I can portion control for my older and make it fun for my younger. My oldest will usually have a sandwich (on bagel or bread), chex mix, carrots and ranch or grape tomatoes, a few mini oreos, fruit (grapes or strawberries) or pickles. My youngest likes munchable crackers, cheese stick, lunch meat cut up to make his own lunchable, chex mix, grape tomatoes or pickles, fruit, and mini nutter butters.
I mix up the dessert part but send very little of whatever it is. I also add an applesauce in the front pocket of the bag in case they are still hungry. I send a reusable container of water with them or a water bottle. I tired those containers you showed but did not have luck with them. They didn't hold enough for my oldest and were hard to fit into their lunch bags. We switched to Planetbox after that and were all happy.

Mine loves a bagel with cream cheese, meat roll ups ( just the lunch meat or sometimes I included a string cheese for him to roll it up around), veggies w/ ranch dip, left over spaghetti (his fav), and of course all that you already mentioned as far as sandwiches. In his thermos.......soups, ravioli, spaghetti o's. We use the same type of gladware you use too. As far as drinks....horizon chocolate milks or a juice box/capri sun. Sometimes I send money for him to get milk there.
I am loving this thread! Thanks for all the ideas ladies! Oh just thought of something else.......his very favorite is veggies, bread, cheese and hot dog w/ pizza sauce to dip it all in. Seriously....he loves it. |
