April (Autumn). I'd returned from deployment overseas in December, and 4 months was all we were prepared to wait. My best friend and younger sister both had weddings a month before me, and my older sister got married the following October, so it was a busy year wedding wise for our family.

We got married on December 23 for a couple of reasons. 1.) Colby insisted that we had to get married in the winter, because he's busy farming the other seasons. 2.) I love Christmas decorations and our church was just gorgeous at Christmas. I loved the thought of not having to decorate the church. 3.) I wanted to be done with college and was graduating in December. We set the date and then discovered that my school would be getting out a week later that year. I graduated on December 18 and got married on the 23rd. It was total insanity.

we got married May 19th, 2001. It was a long weekend (Victoria Day up here in Canada, a week before the US Memorial Day weekend), so we knew that all our family could travel to be with us. We had already been engaged for a little over 2 years, dating for 2.5 years, although we had known each other for over 10 years.

We were married in Sept. Basically, we became engaged in March & there was no way I could pull off a May or June wedding while I finished school. We wanted to avoid the summer heat in July & August, but didn't want a long engagement . . . So, September it was.

June. Because I'm a teacher. I would have LOVED a fall wedding but it's just not that great for a teacher's schedule. I picked June b/c then we could be married all summer before I headed back to school.

I originally wanted to get married in the fall, but we moved the wedding to July because we were building a house and it was going to be ready in July. I was living in an apartment in Lewisville, TX and he was in an apartment on the other end of Dallas so we built a house in the middle. Being in Texas a wedding in the July heat wasn't ideal, but we worked it out.

We got engaged in April and started planning right away because I wanted to have everything payed for BEFORE the wedding. The earliest we could book the venue we wanted was March, so we were engaged for almost a year...BUT, we had no wedding debt to start our life together!

March - because we had friends that were in grad school and that's when Spring Break was, plus I didn't want to have to wait until summer to get married. We were already living 4 hours apart. March ended up being perfect. Beautiful weather and all my family from Pennsylvania enjoyed coming down to Florida.

I had always wanted a September wedding like my parents. I cried and cried because our church was renovating and the sanctuary wouldn't be done until late October. I won't bore you with the details, but suffice it say, I think it was God's timing that worked everything out with the date, which is October 24. For lots of reasons, it was just perfect, including the weather that day, which in South Dakota, is saying a lot!

We got married on 7-7-7, a year + 1 week after we got engaged. I wanted an outdoor wedding and the safest bet was sometime in the summer.

October. We originally planned on March but decided we didn't want to wait. Since we would be moving the wedding up- October was the month that family were available.

I wanted to get married on 09/09/09 in Vegas, but hubby didn't think his mom's health would allow her to travel. We ended up doing it on 9/12/09

We got married September 28, 2010 which marked the 9th anniversary of when I arrived in the Netherlands. We were engaged for 9 years and 9 days....talk about a long engagement. We had originally planned to get married in May 2010 but that was when his mom had surgery for intestinal cancer and we wanted her to be there. Since we got married in the US there was no way she could travel before September. We had a lovely outdoor wedding in Sedona, Az. with just us, his parents and the priest.

We were married in May. We tried other dates but nothing worked for the extended families. Finally we got tired of dancing around everyone. We specifically chose the DAY we got married because it was the day before Mother's Day. Neither of our moms had spent Mother's Day with all of their kids in at least 10 years, if not longer. We wanted to give our moms the gift of having Mother's Day with their kids (and my grandma too, but not all of her kids made it to the wedding) so we chose to get married the day before and then have a big brunch together on Mother's Day. <3 Our mothers were both touched, especially DH's mom who just cried and cried when we told her why we wanted that day.
In the grand scheme of things... May is a crazy busy month for us and our anniversary always falls to the wayside. We always have school stuff going on and we have my son's half birthday (we are a crazy family who celebrates the halves just like we do the real birthdays, minus the friend party) and DH's birthday which is 4 days after our anniversary. This year DH's birthday and Mother's Day was on the same day. Some years it is our anniversary and Mother's Day on the same day. Declan's half birthday is the day before our anniversary so all 4 things tend to blend in to one. Should have planned better. LOL |
