Default Am I Going to Hate Windows 7?

I refused to be on the bleeding edge of Windows Vista so my last several computers have all had Windows XP. I am looking to get a new Dell laptop in the next couple of days and have seen an option for Windows 7 with an XP downgrade. I've heard that Windows 7 is miles better than Vista but I'm worried I'm going to totally hate it.

I use my laptop for the usual suspects: web browsing, email, social media, and of course scrapping and photo editing (PS, ACDSee, Lightroom).

Thanks!

I was the same way, we had an XP system up until a few weeks ago when it died and we got a new one with Windows 7. I'm still getting used to it, but it doesn't seem horrible. I like the look and feel but am still finding my way around.

So far I like it ok, but I've only been using it a few weeks now.

I Windows 7.

I didn't hate Vista, though.

I'm one of those people who gets what is out when I get new software, and I deal with learning it/making changes. I've had Vista for 3 years now, without any problems. I don't get why people hate it so much. Is it different? Yes. Get over it. Change isn't the end of the world. If nothing ever changed we'd still be working in DOS. ::shudders::

I've heard great things about windows 7 though. Our office will be switching to it in the coming months/years I think, as we convert to 64 bit. My husband is in the IT group here, and they are waiting til a sevice pack or two comes out for 7. By then most of the bugs are usually worked out.

I have a bunch of co-workers who were early adopters for our company for Windows 7 and they all LOVE it. Super stable, networking simplification, etc. My friend is kind of a super user, and she said that she can even share media and home network without extra network hardware (??).

so GO for it!

I wish I could get a new laptop!! I SO desperately want a new XPS laptop

I love Windows 7. The biggest stink about Vista was really compatibility issues, which they fixes in their service pack before I got it, so I loved Vista too.

It's still Windows, and a couple things are different, but I found that a couple weeks in I felt that the organization made a lot more sense than it did in XP and previous versions. And if you have trouble finding something, there's a search right on your start menu that I use ALL the time. It's like google for your computer!

I LOVE windows 7. I had refused to go the vista route, and am so happy that my laptop came with 7.

I would totally convert to Mac if I had the $$$, but I don't!

Windows 7 64-bit it is.

I haven't upgraded myself yet so no experience...however...

For your ACDSee tagging, I would highly recommend getting the new Photo Manger version 12. Users of ACDSee PM 2009 and under are experiencing issues when upgrading to Windows 7 and the new version is supposed to be completely compatible. The upgrade discount now requires a log in. If you've never set up a support account just do that and get the upgrade pricing...the regular price jumped a bit so it's well worth the hassel.

I would recommend upgrading acdsee and getting your database imported before migrating it over to a new computer. Changing versions at the same time as operating systems is NOT a good idea!

HTH!

Or use Windows Live Photo Gallery, which saves your tags in Windows. I love it!
