Default QR Codes?

Those of you who use QR codes, what/where do they link to?

I’m intrigued by their use, but I’m worried about the permanency of the links. In 20 years will those photos / videos still be there??

The ones that I have done (I've only done a couple), you upload the videos to Youtube, and can create a private link where noone else can see it. I can send you a PM with a link to the directions I use if you'd like. Just let me know.

And as far as if they will be there in 20 years, who knows with technology. But if you have the original saved to your computer/files/EHD, then you will always have access to it.

I do the same as Dawn and link them to You Tube. Like you, I have wondered about the technology and permanence of the links, but I just don't think there's any way to know for sure. At least we can enjoy them for now!

I link them as private videos on YouTube, but you can use a blog to host your videos, too.
This is the tutorial I use when I do QR Codes (I don't do them often enough to remember every time. LOL!) It was done by Chelle of Chelle's Creations before she retired.

I agree with everyone else. I like including them from time to time.

I link to YouTube as well. And use goqr.me to get the QR code. I don’t know how long YouTube will be around but it seems to gain popularity every year so hopefully a while!

I link to my google photos. I doubt google is going anywhere (or youtube for that matter!) but you never know! The think I like about linking to google photos is that I can make a custom album so not only will it link to the videos, but also any additional photos that I didn't include on my layout.

That's why I haven't used them. Even if a given site is still around, I find it hard to believe that the URLs will still be the same years from now. That said, no one here ever watches our videos because they aren't linked in the scrapbooks. So maybe it's worth making peace with the "for now" aspect and using them anyway.

I understand your concern about the permanency of the links. However, there are ways to make sure the links remain accessible even after a long time. For example, you could use a link shortener that allows you to edit or update the destination link without changing the QR code itself. Another option is to host your content on a platform that you trust to be around for a while, such as YouTube or Vimeo for videos. Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. By the way, have you heard of Smart Engines OCR? It's a cool technology for recognizing text in images and documents.
