Default Talk to me about laptops....

Okay so....the laptop that my bestie gave me for Xmas a little over a year ago blew the USB drive about a month ago. So, I have been using DD's tiny little notebook (which is making me insane!!!) to create and design.

Anywho.....our tax return is coming in this week and DH is giving me $ to buy a new laptop. I only have about $600 to spend and don't care too much about memory size, etc. I store all my stuff on my EHD's and back up on to my ftp also. I really just want it to be as fast as possible and have a good screen size, etc.

I thought I would ask here cuz you girls always have good tips, etc. and see what some of you use that have maybe bought in the same price range or if you know of any specials online or anything before I start shopping locally.

My hubby works for Dell so I asked him- brb with a link! OK here's one he threw together really quick: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...=bqcwcbz&s=bsd

It's almost half price right now, has fast processor, lots of memory and a big hard drive. The only thing it doesn't have is microsoft office. HTH!

I hate my Dell and will never buy another one again. Just my opinion.

Good luck finding one in that price range. I'd be interested to know what you end up getting.

We have a HP and I have a Dell through work and they're both fine. We found a really good deal on the HP at Amazon. We have 10% tax here so getting it tax free was a good savings for us.

We have an old old HP, a newer Acer and I just got my Toshiba last July!!! We love all of them and have not had any problems with them except the screen went bad on our HP when it was about 2 years old (we bought it in July of 2006) and we bought a replacement off ebay for $40 bucks and DH installed it himself!!! I'm sure the HP is discontiuned since we bought it on cleareance 4 years ago. I don't have DH here to tell you the specs but it was one of the Acers from WalMart 2 christmas ago and my Toshiba is a Salellite L305-S5945

I've had tons of laptops (I'm hard on them) but Toshibas are by far the best IMO! I hated my HP, it was flimsy. Office Depot has the best deals on laptops in my experience, my last two toshibas have come from there. And I always spend about $600. I go for the best processor I can afford, 3-4 gigs of ram, and I don't care about HD space either, but for that price I usually end up with only about 320. I have a new toshiba right now running windows 7 and 3 gigs of ram and HOLY COW it is fast. So much faster than my other toshiba running 3 gigs and Vista. The new operating system is so much faster! (and takes up a ton less space)

Well... in the last 12 years... I've had Toshiba, Compaq, HP, Acer, and Dell, either personally or through work... and rarely had hardware problems. My Mom's HP laptop's screen cracked, but like Elizabeth, they were able to easily fix it themselves. Right now... I have a Dell and love it. The new operating system definitely makes a difference!

I have a dell inspiron that I've been really happy with. I've had it almost 5 years and it's done well for me. I need to replace it soon and have been dragging my feet waiting to get a mac but boy is it hard when I see how much laptop I could get for $600......makes me want to get one now!

I know there is a pretty pink Dell laptop at BestBuy.com (only available online) for abt $550 + s&h that covers all the bases I would be looking for. Sorry that I don't have the link, but I'm sure you can find it in a search.

Maybe I got a lemon? But the Dell people weren't able to help me either. So I'm stuck for now and wishing I could get a Mac.
