Birmingham (AL) zoo?
anyone ever been? we're thinking about making the trip over sometime this month before it gets too terribly hot. I'm wondering how it is...clean? nice area of town? etc. We'd probably stay overnight and just make a weekend of it.

Well ~ I gotta be honest. I haven't been to this zoo in awhile. I have a very good friend up there and I will get her to let me know what she thinks. Most people either love it or hate. Years ago it was in a sad state. I had heard that a lot of new great things were going on there, we just haven't gotten up there to check it out.
Was the Zoo the only reason for the trip? If you are going to meet family there are some other things I can recommend. Sorry this wasn't that helpful, but I will get more info soon. Alison |

Mainly the zoo...the closest one to us (about 40 minutes) is in Jackson and unfortunately now in a part of town that I wouldn't got to in broad daylight..especially with my 2 little ones. Soo...the next closest one would be Birmingham since we want it to be a there and back in one day kindof trip.

For a small zoo, Birmingham is OK. I lived there back in 2004. They had a penguin exhibit that was actually in a trailer with a big window... if that gives you any idea. lol The grounds were very pretty, but I think a third of the grounds were the flamingo exhibit.
If you can drive to Atlanta instead, it would be a better time, but a much larger zoo. |
