Default when to call the pedi.. again :p

so. Ce was sick - forever. like a month? a little longer I think.. anyway, after I *thought* he was feeling better for a bout a week .. week and a half, he had that passing out/barf/blah incident @ school. Took him to the dr that evening. .and after an exam and a strep test.. they sent him off for sinus xrays.. yes, sinus infection caused by his allergies is what they said. Ok.... he had no symptoms other than that weird passy outy thing. Started him on the abx.. that night, he started with the headaches. BAD headaches. Dizzy want to vomit headaches. His pedi had told me to call when we hit day 5 to see if he was getting any better.. When I called (on day 6, day 5 was on the weekend) I got the noob dr who doesn't know anything about ce's past shnoz history.. and I told her, he wasn't passing out or vom'ing.. but he was still snuffly and coughing a bit and feeling kinda poopy- though he did SEEM to be getting a little better. She said to not call back unless he got a fever again (he never had one in the f irst place) or he got really sick.
ok.. fine I was just following orders
FFd to tonight.. We're on day 8 + 1 dose.. and he's MISERABLE with the headaches. I asked him all the questions.. and they really don't seem to be sinus headaches.. they're more migraine like (I get aura migraines).. So I dunno.. Do I call again tomorrow and be like dude my kid wants to lob his head off and is piling pillows on his head so he cant see the light.. or do I wait t ill we've finished out the 10 days of abx? or what?

I would probably call again. Sometimes it takes more then one cycle of antibiotics to get rid of an infection and sometimes they have to use a different antibiotic then the first one they try. At the very least they can do something to help him with the pain from his headaches.

I'd call again and make sure you get a message to the original dr. who has been apart of this all along. And yeah - the anti-b may not be strong enough to fight that infection...time to bust some heads

I would call and tell them that your kid is in pain and they need to help him like now! And that you want to doctor that knows his history to help you and not someone who is playing the guessing game.

I would call them again. But then again, I'm at the pedi's office so much that they no longer ask my kids' names. They just check them in.

I would call the dr again, in fact I would call the on call because you definitely do not want to ignore something that could turn into something worse.

I would call too. He needs you to be his advocate right now. Really bad headaches just don't sound right. I would definately be a pest until you feel at peace with the answer!

As a mommy to a boy prone to sinus infections I ditto her. We went through three types of antibiotics before we found one that worked. As for the headaches, try Mucinex.

Call. And throw a fit until you get the doctor you like. I'm horrible, because C's pedi office has 3 dr's and a bunch of PA's and NP's. I refuse to let her see anyone but her "original, was there when she was born and has seen her every time she's been to the doctor" doctor, lol. I think his staff hate me, but he's the only one who really knows her.

Definitely this.

I hope he's feeling better soon.

also just wanted to add when I had a sinus infection several years ago the pain was probably just as severe as my migraines if not worse. I think the pain probably was worse because nothing helped it go away until the infection started to subside. I was constantly sick to my stomach because of all the crap I swallowed that I could not cough up. It was horrible
