Angry External Hard drive "ISsUE" help pls

So I've been searching the forums b/c I know I've read about other DSs losing their kits n things on external hard drive but not having any luck finding solutions...pls help. I have a WD hard drive that I say to myself at least weekly that I need to back up then one day put it in and it makes a clicking noise and gives me a file system error and tries to scan but clicks and cannot start. We tried the freezer thing. Another computer, another cord still no go. Luckily it has no pics on it but all my paid for kits, templates and freebies. ANY suggestions? most of us have to learn the hard way..I'm not exception but least like to recover. Any links to those services that can recover I'd maybe consider. thanks for any and all help. Oh, in Explorer I can see all my folders just when I click on it won't open and gives me a NOT Responding on Explorer. Yikes.

I don't have any suggestions, but when that happened to me I pretty much lost everything.....{the 2nd time it happened to me}luckily my husband took out the hard drive of the EHD and was able to actually put it in his computer and get some of the stuff off of it~

my old one did that, and we were able to recover my files in safe mode, but I did still lose some things. I was able to get about 90%, which was more than I had dared hope for.

An EHD that is clicking is giving you a warning, from what I've been told.

You might try hooking it up to a Mac, if you have access to one. My old EHD decided to die, but I was able to hook it up to one of our Macs and get everything that I needed off of it.

Ok, I'm getting super paranoid between this post and Libby's! I know my Carbonite is not compatible with OS Lion. I'd better get this situation figured out!
