Default Crock Pot recommendations?

I got a new crock pot on Black Friday at Walmart ($17 special, I think) and I used it about 4 times before the lid completely fell apart. The base was wobbly from day one so I chucked it. I pulled out my old faithful (a Rival crock pot I got before we got married, so at least 15 years ago) and went to use it only to find smoke barreling from it. The darn thing almost caught fire before I could get to it to unplug it.

I need recommendations for a new pot. I am going back to work in August and I want to be able to start food before I leave and have it ready by dinner. I'm thinking one with a timer would be nice, but beyond that I have no clue. We're a family of 4 and I like to make enough for leftovers so while I don't need a HUGE one, I need a decent sized one. Any suggestions?

I have one like this. I think I've had it for almost 7 years and I love it.

I'd probably stick with one like that if I had to get a new one, but I do love this one. It's so pretty!

That damask one is pretty! My old one was once pretty... white with a green crock and green ivy on it. After 15 years it wasn't so pretty any more. LOL

I have one exactly like the white one linked but in red...I will say even on low mine cooks SOOO fast. Something that calls for 6 hours on low for me is like 4 so I cant really turn it on and leave it for a long period of time w/out coming home to a mess. I do love it though! I've had it for years and years.

I have the same as Nikki & Meg. My mom has this one & LOVES it! It's totally programable and the lid locks on to take it somewhere.

I have the one that Deb has - but my isn't a carry... but love the programmer part. Once the time is up, it goes down to keep warm.

If I was in the market this is what I would get. Love the idea that the programmer will switch it to warm so I can do shorter recipes and not have to rely on my teenager coming home and remembering to switch it to warm.

I have this one, and I LOVE that it goes down to keep warm automatically!

I was looking originally at this one, but we found the HB one locally, and on sale for $40 (it's orignally about $60 up here), so we bought it.

Ooh, so much to ponder. Of course my husband said HE wants to choose which one. *rolling my eyes* Truth is, he's more 'domestic' than I am and has pretty much picked out every kitchen gadget and appliance we have. LOL I'm showing him your suggestions and putting in my 2 cents though.
