Default Let's talk Stacy Julian

For those of you who use her album system, or something very similar, I'd love to hear what your categories are. I'm sitting here with about 200 printed individual pages and I'm making my final decisions about where to put them all. And the beauty of having individual pages is that if I don't like it, I can change it!

I've read The Big Picture and would like to do a LOM-type thing, but modified to fit my needs.

I already know I'm definitely doing a separate Halloween book because my kids will go nuts over it! And I love her People We Know/Love, All About Us, Places We Go/Things We Do albums.

I'd love to hear how you've adapted her system to meet your needs.

You're in luck, I had mine all typed up for a post over at DST.

I have four main binders: Us, People, Places and Things. Each binder is then broken down into a few sections based on the pages that go in them. Eventually the sections will have title pages, I just haven't gotten around to doing that yet. Here's what my sections look like at the moment, we don't have children or pets so I probably have less/different categories than others would.

Us
All About Me
All About Adam (my DH)
Our Story (pages about us together)

People
All About Susan & Alyssa (my sisters, for pages about them individually)
All About Mom & Dad (pages about my parents)
Sistery Love (for pages about all of us together)
Family Forever (pages about all of us, in-laws, grandparents, etc go in here)

Places
Home Sweet Home (our current home)
Colorado Adventures (things we do nearby)
Travel

Things
Everyday Life (this is probably one of my biggest sections)
Holidays & Traditions (all holiday type pages go here)
Words of Wisdom (pages that have more of a message to them)

Within some of the sections, the pages are then organized chronologically. For example, the sections in Us are mostly in chronological order so you can see the changes in us over the years. Everyday Life, on the other hand, is organized based on topic. I don't stress over this too much. It's just mostly based on what I feel tells the overall story the best. And the great thing about the binders, is I can always change my mind!

Stacy's LOM class at Big Picture Scrapbooking starts tomorrow, and I'm soooooooooooo excited!!

I don't have any of my digi pages printed (working on it ) and I haven't paper scrapped in a WHILE. But, I do want to get my photos my in order more than anything. I also just LOVE Stacy, and want a behind the scenes look at how things work, and to come up with ways I can adapt it for a digi-girl.

I'd love to hear what you both think of the class. I wanted to take it, but I wasn't sure if the time commitment would be worth it for me right now. But if you both end up thinking you got a lot out of it, I might consider it next time it's offered. I also wondered how digi-friendly it would be.

Lynnette, thanks for the great album ideas. I'd love to find binders. Right now I have just a couple of albums, but they're the post-bound ones and they're such a pain. I can't seem to find 8x8 binders, but I'm probably just not looking hard enough.

I'm obsessed with American Crafts albums. They offer 8x8 in their corduroy and modern albums.

I'm actually taking the class as an Alumni - you can repeat the class twice - so I can already give you some feedback. I would say it's mostly digi-friendly. The big picture of her system is definitely do-able in digital, it's just figuring out how to get the same kind of flow with the photos that you'd get with paper.

I'd say that Stacy herself isn't really digi-friendly, in that I really don't think she gets why anyone would use the computer at all. She's even said that her goal is to spend as little time on the computer as possible. But she also realizes this and has taken steps which each session of the class to make it easier on digiscrappers. Last year they added a digi-specific section of the message board, this year they've added a digi-specific coach. I think it'll be interesting to see how this session pans out.

As for binders, I use the 8.5x11 American Crafts cloth albums. I scrap both 8.5x11 and 8x8 so I just mix them in all the same binders together. I'm pretty sure the cloth binders don't come in 8x8 though.

I don't know about the AC cloth ones, but Jae & I just got some of the American Crafts corduroy albums...they're Ding and 8x8...I love them!! I think also the American Crafts modern albums are available 8x8 Ding too.

ETA: I missed Col's post above, lol...so just ignore me!

How many layouts do you typically fit into a binder? I've used 8x8 post bound albums but I'd love to use binders.

They are. I'm looking at them right now.

OK, so help me out here. Anyone know where can I find the American Crafts 8x8 Ding album for less than $18? I'll need several albums and at that price, it's going to add up quickly. Memory Makers has a similar one and it's the same price.

I haven't put any in mine yet, but it comes with 10 page protectors and can EASILY fit probably 70 more, lol. They'll fit a lot of digi layouts since they're not bulky.

My bad, I forgot the corduroy is more expensive than the modern.

Um, they fit a TON. I'd estimate that 1 ding album holds 3 post bound albums without any problem at all. Especially digital prints, since like Bree said, they are super slim with no embellies.

I use the AC 8x8 Modern Album too and so far I've got three filled - I filled them up until 120 layouts and they fit nicely on the shelves

I looked at 2peas and scrapbook.com. I'm not great at finding things like this because I never buy non-digital scrap products so I have no clue where to look.

Im really liking the Modern ones. especially since you can customize the covers

I like to put my layouts in chronological order - but with the post bound, it's a PITA when I miss one and have to put them back in order....

Right now, here's what I have going on

For some I have 2 albums per year - but i tried 1 album for 2007, and man, it's FAT!
