Default Masters of Rome Series by Colleen McCullough

I've been meaning to post about this series. I am in love. I'd had these on my reading list for years and back in February I ended up getting them all in hardback at a used book store b/c they aren't available as Kindle titles. Anyway...they take a while to read..each book is over 800 pages of tiny print but if you love historical fiction then it is well worth the commitment.

I've learned so much about pre-Imperial Rome and found myself searching out other information as I read just because I find it so fascinating. Anyway...these books are fantastic if you're a history nerd like me Also the amount of research and time McCullough had to have put into this series is amazing. So many characters and battles and it spans completely across the Roman Empire from one end to the other and back again.

Here they are in order:

The First Man in Rome (1990); spanning the years 110–100 BC
The Grass Crown (1991); spanning the years 97–86 BC
Fortune's Favourites (1993); spanning the years 83–69 BC
Caesar's Women (1997); spanning the years 67–59 BC
Caesar (1998); spanning the years 54–48 BC
The October Horse (2002); spanning the years 48–41 BC and
Antony and Cleopatra (2007); spanning the years 41–27 BC

So far I've read the first four. I want to get started on Caesar but I'm taking a break to get in a few short reads that I've been wanting to get to. Anyway. LOVE this series and just thought I'd share

I love these books! My grandmother gave me the first one back in high school and I've read the series a couple of times over the years, but never past Caesar. I love long books but I think I just run out of steam by the time I get to The October Horse
