How much of a margin do you leave on your pages?

I always eyeball it, haha. But probably about 1/4" on each edge.

See, I did 1/4 in. on all sides for a book I just printed through Artifact Uprising and that was IN ADDITION to the guides they gave and it's still nearly cut off. My journaling is falling into the crack (is there another term for that? Lol!) between the two pages.

Grr.

That's super annoying, sorry!

On my last few books with Shutterfly, I ended up setting all my pages as their template with one big photo (but not the full bleed one, the one with the smallest border) and they dropped my pages in there so I didn't have to worry about things getting cut off - worked perfectly & I kinda liked the borders

Oh that looks perfect! Now I don't have to go and re-do the pages I've already done. Thanks for the photo... that's super helpful.

You can look for their templates on the Shutterfly website. I want to say on pages, it is .2 inches. I use the template for the covers because the bleed is so weird. They come in psd files and have guides. There is also a diagram for each size book to show print vs bleed.

Yeah, I'm just worried about what their guides are because I followed the guides on the Artifact book with a little extra room even and this STILL happened. But if you haven't had trouble that's good enough for me!

Ok, so I may be a teensy bit OCD about this, but I 'lay out' my books in Excel as I decided what's worthy of scrapping, so I know before I create my page if it's a left or a right page. Then I made sure anything important is not within a 1/2" of any edge.

Bummer! That's what I'm afraid to happen to my books when I started sending them to print shops.

That's what I usually do. I leave a wider margin on the side of the page that will be in the center. So if the page will be on the left side I'll leave a wider margin on the right. But then the planning takes SO MUCH longer and if I decide to insert another page it can throw the whole order off and then Val. Gets. Cranky.

When getting my layouts ready to print, I select everything but the background paper and reduce to 97%, flatten and then upload to shutterfly. I haven't had any problems with things getting cut off.

Actually, the % varies a little by which PL templates I'm using... but that's what I use when printing layouts made with Traci Reed's templates.

I'm ordering my books with layflat pages, I know it's an extra cost, but at least the edge of the page can't dissapear in the gutter like yours did.
