Default Help remembering name of book series!

I remember reading a series a while back that I really liked but for the life of me I can't remember the author or the names of the books

I'm hoping maybe someone here might recognize my convoluted description:

Set during either WWI or WWII, I honestly can't remember. Involves characters from different classes and different countries. The ones I remember are a family in Ireland who works in the coal mines, an upper class family in England, a family in the US that has a senator in it and another US family that is part of the mob and becomes connected with the Russian peasant family when the brother immigrates. A man from Germany who is in the German army and falls in love with the "old maid" English lady whose brother fooled around with the maid at their country home and got her pregnant.

And if anyone knows what I'm talking about I will be amazed - LOL. I just hope I recognize the name of the series if someone does come up with it!

LOL Jen - I was hoping you might recognize it! I might have to go to the library here and see if someone there recognizes what I'm talking about.

Marie, Are you a member at GoodReads? If so, you can post your description in the What's The Name of That Book group and I bet they'd help you reallly quickly!

haha! It sounds familiar, but not familiar enough to have read it. Like I read someone else's review on goodreads or something

I was thinking Ken Follett too Brook, but when she said it was a series, I sorta put it out of my mind because the trilogy isnt done and the second book hasnt been out that terribly long I dont think. The Century Trilogy was the first thing that came to mind though.

Yes, it was Fall of Giants! I knew it was someone like Follett but couldn't remember for the life of me! Thank you

I did read Winter of the World but I completely forgot that the 3rd one isn't out yet.

I just started Fall of Giants a couple of days ago, but I've determined it's too long for me to get read in 2 weeks while I have it from the library. I'll have to wait until life slows down, or buy it.
